Simple questions.  Does anyone use TrackIR for CoD?  Would it even work good...or at all?

It lets you look around by moving your head. Flight simulator people love it because it makes finding enemy airplanes much easier (by making turning the in game pilot view easier).

I'm a white kid in the suburbs, but I'm not that spoiled lol..

I'd never take games seriously enough to get that.

Some guy at work mentioned it.  Not sure I could get used to that.

It's meant for simulators useless for FPS's.

I don't see what you would do with it in CoD? use it to aim? that would probably be harder?

It looks like it kicks ass for shooting games with free look like ArmA, and would be real cool for some racing games.

I've toyed with the Idea of buying one but I don't think I would...I'm too fickle in my gaming.

They really aren't that expensive though, < $200? Thats a good bit of money, but its not too bad with what some spend on stuff like keyboards/mice/ect....not to mention when you look at the fact that most people who play racing games often are willing to invest in a wheel.

I would way rather buy this then rock band for xbox

it also can be used in ArmA, but that´s more of a simulation.. i think you won´t have any advantage in cod4, if it would work...

I'm almost 99% positive you can use it to emulate mouse movements.  So yes, it would work, but would probably be a disadvantage.

I've used one for FS and LO:MAC, great little device.

Wait...if you move your head to the right (to look to the right)....you won't see your screen?

..or is there something I'm missing?

Seems easier to me to just move the mouse, and unless you have a screen that floats around and faces wherever you're looking it wont work right? (unless you only have to turn your head by a very small amount).

Although i'd like to try these: http://edimensional.com/product_info.ph … ucts_id=28

But yeah, I think these type of things work best in flight sims.

oooooh, I get it now.

YOu can set the sensitivity like with your mouse. basicly, if you move your head one inch, you could make your soldier turn 180 degrees.

Then you click some button to shoot.

So why on earth would anyone spend 200$ on that?

I'd rather get the x52 joystick.

I have TrackIR and love it for flight/driving sims but it's not very good for FPS's for the simple fact that native support for FPS's is very rare.
For FPS's it has to be supported to be used effectively.
The thing to remember with TrackIR+FPS's is that TrackIR is not meant to replace your mouse, it is meant to be used with it instead.
Where it would really shine is leaning. You would no longer have to press a button to lean, you simply lean your head.
Another situation where it would kick ass is you can keep your crosshair on a target (say a doorway) while adjusting your view so that you can keep an eye on an alleyway on your left/right that would normally be out of view.
I would definitely NOT recommend buying it for CoD or any FPS's though. Not yet anyway. The only one that fully supports it (that I know of) is ArmA and to buy it for that alone is just not worth it IMO. Insurgency was supposed to add support with the latest version but you have to do editing to get it to work... even then it's not the full 6 axis'.

If you're a racing or especially a flight simmer then it's easily the single best add-on you can buy for immersion and well worth the cash.

Using TrackIR's 'Mouse Emulation' software with FPS's SUCKS, don't bother. It's nowhere near as precise as a mouse. The only spot where it could come in handy is "Free Look" in a chopper/jet in BF2 or similar. Aiming with TIR's Mouse Emulation just isn't going to be pretty.

BTW, for those who already own TrackIR... there is a program (Trackmapper) that allows you to assign keystrokes to your head movements.
I use it for FPS's that don't support TrackIR (take your pick ) to free up my fingers. Look left/right to lean (however it's the generic on/off lean), up to switch to my primary weapon and down to reload but you can set it up however you want, obviously. But again, to those without TrackIR, not worth the price if this is all you would use TrackIR for.

Yea it ain't cheap, but if I broke mine today I'd be ordering its replacement tonight. Once you use it for flight simming, you don't ever want to touch a hat switch again.
