it only dates back to the 17th century when Holland beat your ass and not the whole of The Netherlands, but now Holland is gone, only South and North Holland as provinces,
so
Holland = 2 Provinces (North and South) with Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam etc
The Netherlands = the whole sjabang.
