No! It ain't over until it's over! The only people talking about it is people who don't have any convictions or beliefs. The big issue in our current society is that technology has advanced to be able to explain processes of the life cycle and people use this as a basis to define all existence.
The "CSI Syndrome" or "Scientific Fact" state of mind is fine as a human tool to help us understand how we exist, however, not why we exist.

The gradual elimination of religious belief is roughly proportional to the growth in wealth, education, technological advancement and rational thinking. It therefore is not outdated as more than half the world still lives in comparative abject poverty, uneducated and without the technological luxuries we in the enlightened west have. Because their lives are so miserable they need to have something to cling to to make it in any way worthwhile: an afterlife. Quite quaint really.

@CamPoe...
Darn, I only took the rich parts of the world into account... Kinda stupid of me to forget the majority of the world that is not educated very well...
Let me just say that my previous statement is directed only at the properly educated world.

Well...it wouldn't let me karma you, Dilbert.
I agree with you 100%.
Bet you never thought you would've seen that, eh?

The point is though, that not all the rules are valid/co-exist with other religions. Some of them are just plain absurd and have been twisted beyond reason from the true point.Dilbert_X wrote:
Religion seems to be basically:-
A means of giving society a set of rules and some incentive for conforming to them besides the threat of punishment.

As long as he ends that sentence like: "For one person to attempt to impose their views on someone else, is a bigot." Hes fine.Stingray24 wrote:

Yes, I think most religions started off as a big Punk'd prank.
My point is regarding the part of the statement involving children. The situation is completely different between one's own child and another adult so the two don't belong in the same sentence.xBlackPantherx wrote:

A parent's job is to raise their children, which does not involve asking the little inexperienced-in-life skulls full of mush what they think as you would do to an adult. Instead it is instructing them, so we could easily classify parenting as "imposing" one's views on one's children until they are adults. Upon reaching adulthood they can make their own rules. Until then a responsible parent makes and enforces the rules.

what is sin? is eating pork? is it working on sunday? is it banging a girl before youre married?
this is going to be vote-for-vote an identical poll to "are you a religious person."
Those who believe in God will say that religion is never outdated because Gods laws and wisdom supersedes generational whims.
Those who do not believe in God make themselves their own god, and then of course any law that doesn't coincide with their own personal set of laws is "outdated" or simply stupid.
This poll is pointless.
for the record, i voted no, religion is not outdated.

I mean, CMON! Some religious "regulations" are just ridiculous. Mormons aren't allowed to date or do anything till at least 16. If you think that is bad, which of course I guess it isn't that bad, it is against their religion to ever drink coffee/caffeine. I mean, it's things like that which are just absurd, ridiculous, and FAR from the original beliefs of the religion.
GUHWAH??
Religion outdated?
Neh, I guess in some cases yes, Fundamentalism is just bullshit and chips but some less mentally reinforced members of our species need that belief that a Cosmic Jewish Zombie is holding us up in times of severe depression and whatnot.

So, for those of you who say religion is for fools who don't look at the facts, aren't you being a bit hypocritical? You are dismissing millions of ideas because they don't conform to your view...while you tell the religious to look at the evidence that science has discovered...
How is it that there are people who still believe in religion AND science? I do not think the two are mutually exclusive as some suggest.

We live we die, get buried thats it
Ideas and facts are two different things. I highlighted those two things you wrote because that does not make sense to me.RAIMIUS wrote:

That is true. However, if you don't investigate ideas, you cannot really dismiss them. They may be fact, theory, or BS. You don't know until you research.
Some of us tend to dismiss ridiculous stories until they prove to be viable. Religions tend to be among these ideas that are put aside. But most of atheists are not dogmatic to the point that they will never change their viewpoint. We may seem very militant, but that is merely for the reaching of religion into our society. Yet, as a new theory will change science, and we will change our views to suit the most logical ideas, so would we if religion became viable.RAIMIUS wrote:
