TIE Fighter wasn't the first game to knock my socks off, but that it did. Collector's CD ftw.GunSlinger OIF II wrote:

C&C Generals Zero Hour
The 1st game I laid eyes on: Nintendo Entertainment System Super Mario Brothers
Street Fighter II and Street Fighter II Turbo. First Games. I remember an old SNES game that reminded me of Crash Bandicoot but you were a red fox or something. And at the end of each round you would chase after a taxi cab and it would fling a big ass punching glove at you, it was kind of weird but that game was awsome too.
Umm GTA III.

I never say " holy shit! " while I'm playing the worst or the best game, no matter what game it is,
that's 10-year-old stuff
but the first game that amazed me was Tekken 3

Doom (first one)
Wolfenstein (first one)
Then I had a long break from PC games, and then PS1 + games MoH etc.
PS2 + games MoH (again) etc. Then BF1942, BF:V, BF2, MS Flight Sim 2004 and now Red Orchestra.

wolfenstein 3D
Jagged Alliance 1
You would hire mercs, battle the AI for sectors on an island, find new weapons (a lot of weapons), different ammo types, train militias and stuff like that. It had it all. To this day its the game I played the longest (not counting multiplayer).

I'm kind of old (comparatively) so Fallout from Troika.
It was the first time I played a game where I could do whatever I wanted, bad or good.
Anyone who played it will remember playing through like any other RPG until some random kid stole your leet ass gauss rifle while you were trying to trade a handful of spears for some energy cells... So you pop a cap in that ass before he gets away and WHAM- you're a child killer and the whole world is against you. Better hope you had enough narcotics (Jet) to keep you awake long enough to kill an entire town with nothing but a pistol, a grenade, and a mutated 6th toe...
crap- I'm bout to install that ten year old sucker, right now

Around 1990, I bought my first PC along with a game called Wing Commander. I had no idea at the time that this potent combination of PC and gaming would be the downfall of 7 years of marriage. Needless to say, I think Jade Raymond is the coolest woman on the planet........
Other notable losses of socks include Commando's, RTCW, Enemy Territory, MOHAA, BF2. Many other great games, but these were the tops for me.
