When I'm loading a map, BF2 mutes my microphone (where you click the little speaker icon in windows), thus, after loading a map I have to alt+tab to un-mute it whenever I feel like using the VOIP, which is usualy never since I use ventrillo, but sometimes I happen to be in a squad or something where their using VOIP and I cant respond quickly.

Anyone know how to stop it from doing that? They can barely hear me when its 'muted' (Don't know why they can, its suppost to be muted), but its fine when unmuted so yeah.

Not a clue. Make sure NO other applications are open (including AIM, vent, firefox, etc) just too make sure it's not an app conflict.

Outside of that, contact EA.

I'm not sure why bf2 would be doing that, however your mic should still work when muted in the Audio Control tab since mine is muted by choice so as not to constantly be picking up every noise in the house at all times. If they can barely hear you in game then simply adjust your bf2 mic settings, boost gain might help if it isn't already checked as well as the db boost in your advanced mic settings for windows.

Yes, "boost" your mic. There is an option for that in windows. worked when i had problems on a friends cpu.

i nearly have the same problem

everytime i connect on a server the Mic2 Check Box gets activated....so I have to do the alt-tab and uncheck it after i´m connected.
when i´m using Teamspeak i see that it´s happening at the very beginnig of maploading...
The MIC Boost Box below is always on.
i have this problem since the beginning, it´s not really annoying but i would be happy if someone would find an answer....

sorry for the bad english

Go and update your sound card driver. I have an onboard realtek AC97 and my Voip was turning off part way through my first round I would turn it back on and then again it would turn off. I went to the EA Forums and found that EA recommended you download the newest sound card drivers.

I too have noticed this problem (BF2 selecting "Mic 2").

Now, I found something interesting/odd here...

EA Support

According to that, the only VoIP is a) Commander orders to squad leaders, and b) Squad leaders to squad members...  that it is not designed to be a chat system like teamspeak.

I have yet to get my mic to work with BF2... but I can swear I've heard two guys in a squad conversing... can someone confirm this?

(Edit: I am using onboard AC97 on an ASUS A7V600 mobo, am using the latest drivers, and my mic works fine for other applications, including Teamspeak)

All of my clan is set up the same way as you are and it works in TS and BF2 voip perfectly. Just make sure that you downloaded the newest driver. Just double check. You may have clicked the wrong link and reinstall the driver.
