Long read, but hopefully I'll answer most of the questions that follow the usual 'OMG MY BF2 R BROKED' threads.

Alright, I'm getting very frustrated now. I am unable to play almost ANY BF2 servers without getting a "There is a problem with your connection" message, approximately every one to three minutes, lasting 1-10 seconds. If it goes over 10 seconds, I disconnect. These intervals ARE random, I have checked the times, and it varies greatly. This happens on servers where I have 20-25 ping, so my connection shouldn't be an issue.

Now, this is not EVERY server, which is what confuses me - just most. About 90%. There are a few servers I can frequent, and they ARE 64 players, and I've been on during prime time (60+) with NO problems whatsoever.

I play MANY online games, including several MMO's, BF2142, CS:S, America's Army, and others. I do not have these problems with ANY of those games, at all. My latency is always low, and I have minimal packet loss.

I used to play BF2 all the time, no problems whatsoever. My computer was bogging down (it had been some time since a reformat) so I decided to get a clean slate.

Backed everything up on my second hard drive and it went off fine. No problems getting my system set up. I've spent probably 12 hours over the past few days trying to fix this issue. It seems like a number of people have it.

System specs: All drivers are the latest possible, having just reinstalled windows + drivers about 5 days ago.

Yes, I know they're not state of the art, but I'm able to play at 1280x1024 with settings at medium, or 1024x768 with all at high - good enough for me

Windows XP Professional SP2
DirectX 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Rated at 3.3ghz)
Motherboard: Asus K8N4-E Deluxe x16 PCIe
Chipset: nVIDIA nForce4-4x
Memory: 1024 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM
BIOS: Award (03/03/05)
Sound Card: Onboard Sound (I know, I know)
Video Card: ATI Radeon X600 Series 256MB x16 PCIe
IDE Controllers: NVIDIA nForce4 Serial ATA Controller (x2)
Disk Drives: 160GB 7200RPM Ultra-ATA/133 (x2)
Network Adapter: Linksys LNE100TX Fast Ethernet Adapter
Router: BEFSR81 V3 (Firmware 2.51.3) *WIRED* Router

Going over other people's issues has given me the following (failed) solutions:

1) Uninstall/reinstall game
It was a fresh install, but I figured what the hell. Uninstalled BF2+BF2 Mods, rebooted, installed BF2 alone, then the latest patch. Rebooted. No improvement in game play.

2) Faulty Asus/nForce Onboard Ethernet Ports
Doesn't apply. I have the onboard NIC disabled and use a Linksys card.

3) A bunch of stuff relating to wireless networking
I don't use a wireless network.

4) References to 'Top 10 BF2 Tweaks', such as pb_sleep 500, renaming bf2.exe, etc.
Done them all. No improvement.

5) Run BF2 at lower settings/60hz refresh rate
Tried at 800x600/60hz with ALL settings as low as possible. Nothing changed, besides the game looking like shit while lagging.

6) Open ALL the recommended ports on your router and make sure your system has a static IP on your network
Was already done. My system has a static IP (192.168.1.123 every time I start up) and all of the recommended ports are opened in my router administration settings, directed to the right place, etc. I know how to use a router.

7) nForce has issues with BF2
Okay. This is the only thing I haven't thoroughly explored - because I used to play BF2 on this SAME EXACT MACHINE all the time with no problems. The only thing I can think of is that I have a newer version of the nForce chipset drivers, and I'll have to downgrade. I'd like to see if there's any other fixes before doing this though... I hate having to clean out traces of drivers before putting new ones in. (If anybody knows a good driver cleaning utility for an nForce mobo chipset, I'd much appreciate it)

Kudos to you if you made it through the post. Any advice?

Have that problem too, started a few days ago. I do have nForce as well. If you find a solution I will worship you.

Try contacting your ISP and get them to do some line tests.  Do they limit how much net traffic your allowed? Peak times? Fair usage policy? etc etc..

I guess im not the only one getting this problem either, i get the same thing in some servers yet others work fine, my problems also started about a week ago and its so frustrating cause my clan competes in the TWL league.  Im not sure if its a ISP problem because I dont get the same problem in every server or server provider.  My clan has two wolf servers one i get connection problems in the other i dont, has anyone else had this problem before and resovled it?

I had such a problem - it was just my ISP repairing some connection interstate.  Nothing to do but wait.

Alright, what's strange is that I called my internet provider and told them I was having this problem, and they had me go through the total basics for about an hour... like I was a moron who didn't know anything about my computer. "Please uplug the modem."  "Please turn off your computer."

I went through 6 people and 2 automated 'service/support' machines before I got to a real techie. They sent somebody out immediately, replaced something on the outside of my house, and my connection was perfect - no problems - for about 24 hours. I could play on the servers that I couldn't before with no problem whatsoever.

Now it's back. And again, it's ONLY on some servers. I can still play on others.

What the hell? I have no idea what's going on.

><

It's also expanded to a few other online games I play now, and again, only to certain servers. /sigh

I think some_random_panda might be right - there's some sort of problem on the connection 'interstate' that they're working on, which would explain why a number of us have started experiencing this over the past week or two. It's not my ISP, I even asked them if there was any repairs/rerouting going on anywhere in their network. Nada.

Still, that doesn't explain why my net worked perfectly for just one day after they replaced something, before it started happening again.

Oh... and I tested it on two other computers on my router... neither have an nForce chipset. Same problems on both systems, whether through the router or connected directly to the modem. Sadly, just a coincidence, I think.

In your Bf2 settings area there is an option that lets you chose your internet type think it was modem/dsl check the modem (or whatever it was) in. That helped me alot and my ping did not go crazy.

i used to have this problem on my comp, which had an nforce chipset.  The problem with mine was that i intsalled all the drivers from the cd that came with the mobo and one of them was marvell yukon ethernet driver.  I finally installed the nvidia ethernet driver and plugged into the other ehternet port on my mobo so that i was using the one controlled by the nvidia driver and viola, havent had the problem since.

I'm using a separate NIC card. And it's different from the other two pcs in the house, so it's not the NIC.

has anyone figured this out yet? im gonna try to use a friends internet connection tommorow and see if the problem is just with the individual house or if its a computer issue.
