I'm leaving next Monday, (august 13) for Parris Island, for marine corps boot camp. This is both a goodbye to the forums, as well as a request for anything that could save me a little trouble, from anyone who has been through it already. Any advice would be appreciated.

Good luck bro, I hear Paris Island is tough, but at the same time, it'll make you tougher than you think you are or could be. My only advise is keep a low profile and do everything they say. No use in fighting it, they'll win It's a test of willpower. You'll do great bro, some of it will even be fun

Take care and talk to you in a few months

Good luck. With regards to the advice, i think someone else did the same thing a couple of months ago, and he got tons of responses. Search for it. Once again, good luck, i've heard it's tough

more like the whole company gets smoked while you stand in fron of the formation being forced to eat whatever was sent to you very slowly by the drill sgt's.  Man, everytime somebody got cookies sent them, the smokey bears would have em standing in front of everyone forcing them to munch em down while everyone else is get PTed.  As private snuffy eats his cookies, hes making a lot more friends with the rest of the company.  And then, once hes done with his cookies, drill sgt gives him a private smoking session untill all the food he just ate is thrown up.  good times.

When you find yourself chanting "hoo-rah", don't take it too seriously, especially when they roll out the indoctrination videos.  Like Gunslinger said, switch on the autopilot, but never forget you're human first and marine second later in the game.  You'd be surprised how many jarheads take it seriously, and more surprised how many are just pretending when they're in the group.

As for bootcamp, its just a thing.  Stay quiet, make sure your buddy is as squared away as you are.  If you're wrong, they're wrong, and vice-versa.  Don't try to buck the system, plenty of time to goof off after you graduate.  You'll realize later just how short of a time it was.

Aint that the fucking truth.  Dont count the days.  It goes by so fast compared to the other time your gonna see in the military.  And whatever you do, do not talk about boot camp to your fellow marines once you get down to your permanent unit.  People who have been in the military longer than a day hate hearing about the same stories everybody goes through when you first join.

Youll realize how small a space boot camp takes up in your memories when youre done with your service.
