That's a nice thought, but what if they feel like they already got rammed enough by the government?ProDicTeD wrote:
a war veteran should get 16 gb of ram for free from their goverment
Yep, databases LOVE memory.chuyskywalker wrote:
Why just memcache when I run the DB straight out of memory too?kmkz wrote:
lol why exactly do you need 16GB RAM? i reckon it's the memcache you got running, but i could be wrong. i've never heard of any webserver requiring more than 2 or so GB for heavy-duty work
Business applications typically use a web server(s) in the DMZ talking to a database server behind the another firewall, or even a three tiered architecture- web server <-> application server <-> database; This one server will be running the database and the web server generating dynamic content. 16GB is not overkill, and should allow Chuy to grow the site without worrying about running of gas any time soon.
I think you got it right Chuy.

What database do you think you're going to use? I reckon you've got MySQL at the moment, but will you stick with it?
Mysql, yes, and I'll probably stick to it simply because it's what I know really well. I don't think switching to somehting I don't know mid stream would be good idea.kmkz wrote:

That's cool. Mysql is a very good database considering how many people use it for high-performance applications. An alternative would be postgresql for its stored procedures, or mssql but as you said you'd need to do a lot more work.
Are you going to have unlimited bandwidth with your colocation plan?

There is no such thing. I'll have unlimited use of a 10MB/second line.
Also, mysql 5 has stored procedures -- not that I know how to use those yet

So you are running xp64 Chuy? or some flavor of linux that isnt cacking on the 16GB of ram?
Chuy, you took my 20 bucks to Vegas last weekend didn't you? LOL!!! Congradulations on your winnings!!!
Sober enough to know what I'm doing, drunk enough to really enjoy doing it
Nice site chuy, keep up the good work.chuyskywalker wrote:

Mind me asking if you went to college or tech school at all?? Where did you learn how to use MySQL so well??
Chuy, someone's gonna find you behind the rack, on the floor squatting and bugeyed, chanting "...my precioussss, MY PRECioussssss!!!"
