Nothing jumps out as being a definite problem.

However, you do have a lot of stuff running, and this could be causing issues.

Now, I've not used HijackThis, so I don't know what it does, how it works, or how good it is, but, can you use it to disable some of your start-up apps and utils?

Failing that, go to Start->Run... and type in 'msconfig' (without the speech marks) and hit OK...
Then, on the Services tab, click the Hide All Microsoft Services checkbox and disable anything that isn't absolutely required.
Then, on the Startup tab, again, disable anything that isn't absolutely required.
You'll then need to restart...
On restart a dialog will pop-up, just close this and cancel msconfig if it also appears.

That should help some, but I doubt any of the stuff you have running is actually causing your problem.

I think you should try a complete reinstall of windows. If that doesn't work, it's a problem with your internet connection that you'll have to contact your ISP to get sorted out.

You also can use regscrubxp to clean up the registry.   Also go to www.blackviper.com and he shows how to shut off other things you don't need.  I used his recommendations on Vista and love it now.  I have about the best laptop you can get and couldn't play games on it because of lag cause by vista using a third of 2gigs of ram.  Most of the time any lag I have had was caused by my system getting to hot.  On my old P4 system I had to put a liquid cooling on it and then I could play all night.

For help with the HijackThis, copy and paste your log here: Here and then click on parse at the bottom.

People here suggest to reinstall left and right, but if you ask anyone who knows anything, they will tell you it is a last resort.  It's not fixing the problem, it's just hoping it will go away.

I have never had to reinstall windows and when you do you will lose anything you don't save.  You have to copy your save files to a disk or flash drive.  If you really think that will help there is a repair option in the widows installatiion console.  The first step ask you if you want to install windows on c: drive hit enter and the second one will ask you about over writing or creating a new partition.  At that point you can select your drive and hit "R" for the repair optioin.  You will not lose anything that way.

Before doing this I would still check and recheck any running background programs (yahoo/msn messengers, ea link, etc.), temps, and maybe your vid card settings are too high.  Looking at your log you have a lot of CRAP running.  Turn off adobe, messengers, java script, ATi, ipod, real player, quicktime, itunes, microsoft office (in options), and any thing that says live update.  You should have less than 40 processes running with XP.  You have a lot of junk.  You can turn them off by using the msconfig tool someone stated before.  They will start and run properly when you choose to use them and they will update then.  I have "fixed" computers with 75 processes running and they couldn't figure out why it took 5 minutes to start up and the internet was slow.  The computer is working just to run all of that nonsence.

I also keep my vid setting on the medium setting on all but a few things.  My card can run on high but it causes extra heat and latency problems (lag). Try setting monitor to 800x600 if you have an older monitor.  Also you can start the game and alt+tab to desketop.  ctrl+alt+del to the task manager and see what is running and using up your CPU and memory. Then if possible end task to shut it off.  There may be many.

There are tons of things to do before you should resort to the 90min reinstall of windows that will wipe your HD and then the hours of setting up your computer to your satisfaction and installing games and programs, updates, patches, and drivers.  First you can delete (is a must) and then reinstall drivers for NIC card, vid card, sound card, and any updates from your computers manufacturer.

If you can't or won't do what people here are suggesting, then you need to take it to a professional or just live with it.  Maybe reistalling windows is a good thing but you don't need to reistall all of that crap.  A gaming rig is for gaming and a home computer is for the other stuff.

Reinstalling Windows XP is really easy.

Here is really good guide - print it out...

NOTE: Make sure you choose the option to format, you will lose ALL installed applications and data, but this will ensure you are starting from a clean-slate. Now, that also means that if you have any precious data - you need to make sure it is backed-up - burn it to CD/DVD or copy it to a second HDD/partition or a flash drive.

Do not use the Repair option - it is notorious for screwing things up even more than they were before - meaning you end up having to do the re-install twice.

Also, after you've got XP installed, make sure you install all essential drivers - motherboard, lan, video-card, sound-card and so on - then install BF2 and nothing else - if you then still get problems, it is almost certainly an issue with your ISP.

Once you're happy that BF2 is working ok, then install any other apps as and when you need them - this will make the process easier and you won't end up spending hours sitting shoveling disks in, before you get to use your PC again. It'll also help to diagnose the original problem - if you install something and the problem returns then your know that whatever you just installed is what is causing it.

This is the problem. No, we don't know what the problem is.

Now you could continue spending many more hours removing stuff and it may never fix the problem.

Or you could spend an hour or so re-installing windows.

It's up to you.

Try reseting all BF2 settings to default and slowly raising them until you get a problem again.

If you still have a problem.  Remove one stick of RAM and try playing bf2.  If still a problem try removing other stick and reinstalling the other.  You may have a bad stick of RAM.  If you have 3-4 sticks repeat.

If you have your sound options to hardware switch them to software. And disable VOIP.

Try once again to manually update punkbuster.  Sometimes it doesn't work first time.

Make sure your computer is dust free.  Dust can cause heat and shorting problems.

Update nVidia drivers if you have a motherboard with nVidia chipsets.

The repair option on the windows disk is a viable option.  I have done it over 50 times on customer computers and have never had a problem.  Sometimes it is the first thing I do.  Also each widows disk comes with 5 installs per cd-key and you would be using one with a fresh install.

They don't enforce that on XP anymore.
