I get this quite often: after some time some textures and models become distorted.
With it, FPS drops and only a restart of the game can solve it... for a while.
Included are some screenshots.
Am I the only one who has this? Google didn't find anything about it.
I'm playing on a Dell XPS m1710 with 2 gig RAM and a nVidia 7950 GTX.

Any ideas?

Tnx for the suggestions.
I'm running forceware 94.22, the one supplied by Dell.
What's the version you can download from the nVidia website?

The m1710 is known for its excellent heat management (seperate heatpipes for gpu and cpu with different exits) so I think/hope that's not the problem.

i get the impression that this happens more the longer you play....if that is the case, then i would think it is a heat issue.
anyway, good luck.

Dunno, go to hte nvdia website.
Go to downloads

Enter your specs i.e: Windows version. 32 bit of 64 bit and your graphics card series and it will give you the latest drivers.

Forceware 96.something I believe.

Hmm, well actually its 162.18 now... here http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_162.18.html

And take a look at the temperature panel after a round or two and see what the heats like, as daffytag mentioned. Let us know.

I can't install the official drivers from the nvidia website.
It says no supported device is found (or something like that).
So I tried some of the modded drivers at laptopvideo2go.com but all the ones I tried gave me BSOD's or severe FPS drops.
I'm affraid I'm stuck with the retarded Dell drivers :-(

It's got to be overheating issues. Open your case and clean out the fans for now.

Ok just played a game, with no artefacts this time.
A temperature of 80°C was reached.
Too much?

Yes. Thats pretty fucking hot.  Its pretty strange that you cannot install teh drivers, even if its a dell machine... You certainly need to take your side panel off or whatever and clean all the dust from teh chassis, components, and fans.

This stuff works well.

Agreed. Best to take out the card itself and clean out the heatsink/fan. They can become quite clogged and, of course, airflow suffers thus more heat.

Did you follow my link for the drivers?

*Edit* Oh, its a laptop??? that could be....troublesome.

Yeah it's a laptop :-)
I will try to clean the fans...
But after all those jerky driver installs, I get a bsod after coming out of stanby, so first I need to address that problem.
System Restore ftw.

Did you make sure to download the go drivers or did you get teh desktop ones? Laptops are NOTORIOUS for generating heat. I bet you could fry an egg on that thing!

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_m … .63_2.html

these are teh Nviida Go drivers for 7800/7900 laptop cards. these should work. However they havent been updated in awhile (July 5,2006) you may already have them. If you do then its most likely a heat issue. Time for some world class Dell service! FTW, it took my co-worker 6-8 weeks to get a repl 6800 in her laptop (alienware=Dell). Good luck!

Yeah tried them too. My card is a 7950 GTX... the damn drivers won't install.
They are also version 84.63, the Dell ones are 94.22 so that would be a step back.
Sending it back to Ireland is no option.
BF2 is the only game I have performance issues with... I'll have to live with it :-(

Hmm, you really want to try cooling it down though..perhaps invest in a coolpad for the laptop or something similar.  Also try reverting back to an earlier driver, but im pretty sure its the heat thats causing the artifacts.

I would advise you to install a fresh copy of windows. After installing different drivers, especially modded drivers, there are alot of files that stay in your computer and slow it down, and may cause trouble with other drivers... and then take care of the heat problem.
