Any Ideas...?

I got my new computer 3 days ago and have been trouble shooting BF2 from the start. I can Install and run BF2 with no problems period. It's fine when I run singleplayer games no errors, no crash, no such thing. But when I get into on-line games the trouble starts. In the first 10 minutes of on-line play no matter what server, BF2 will just restart my computer, with no warning, NOTHING. After having 4 nice long phone calls with an EA tech my question still goes un-answered.

Some Info on new comp:

OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz
RAM: 1024MB
Graphics Card: Radeon x800 Series 256MB
Sound: SB Live! Wave Device

Taking on any new ideas that anyone may have to solve this problem.

Might be XP...seems to have problems with some programs sometimes.

OK have you got the latest patch for Windows XP?
What type of broadband connection are you running?

As the only difference between single player and multiplayer is probably that you are using your internet connection...

Yea, I have the newest patch for windows XP ran through and did all the updates today and I'm running on DSL.

I made sure I got all the drivers for everything before I gave my "friends" at EA a call.

when xp restarts depending on ur settings it should do a memory dump... how ever you can turn off auto restart on critical errors this should give you the blue screen of death known to all who have ever used 98 95 me so on...

to do this - right click on my computer go to properties - to the advanced tab - find the settings button under start up and recovery (click it) - under system failure untick automatically restart... now when it happens you should get the blue screen of death..

also change debugmode jiggy to small memory dump and send it to ea if it is indeed bf2

this will tell you whats causeing the system failure

Via Router or directly connected? --> firewall --> AV Solution?

does your computer also reboot when you're just surfing the web?

Also the latest catalyst drivers installed?

Hey, this is my first time on the forums and not to change the subject but I to need help im looking to buy a new graphics card thats under $300. I want everything to run on high though any ideas?

Specs: pentium 4 3.0ghz ht
1GB 3200

1. get more RAM. Graphics card isn't everything.
2. after that, a 6800GT should do, I got a X800 XT PE which runs fine also
3. this is only my personal opinion. don't sue me, if it doesn't work out..

and i got no idea how much a 7800gt is in america or wherever u are but you should wait till you got the money for one or get the money for it no point getting second best if you want the best, trust me you wont be sorry if you get a 7800gt

Drannar, could be a memory problem. Also make sure that the Active-X drivers are the latest.
There might be stuff running in the background, like antivirus or something that is causing the issue. It might see the packets transferring and spaz out. Make sure you don't have anything running in the background.

I know nobody will think of this, BUT. how big is your Power Supply? and what brand and model is it?
and also, have you downloaded all the latest drivers for your video card and your motherboard?

1.) When you say it restarts, do you mean it actually restarts, or does the PC just shut off instantly?
(Sorry to ask because awhile back someone said the same thing and what they really meant was it was just totaly shutting off..which changed things dramatically)

I bought my 6800GT a few months ago at Best Buy for $400. It might have gone down in price now though, shit always happens right when I finally decide to buy something and then something better comes out.

Lol Ryan. Yeah, it's expensive to try and keep up a good gaming rig. It always seems that 2 weeks or so after you buy a kick ass component for some ridiculous price, it drops by 40%. Just gets frustrating.

Slay, just wondering, he mentioned something about the singleplayer working fine, only when jumping to Multi when it bombs. Is there is difference in power usage? Just wondering.
