I'd go with the Toyota. Both cars and companies are good, but a well maintained toyota is almost guaranteed to be problem free. The VW as with most Euro cars run extremely well but tend to have less reliable electronics.

But a golf is better than corolla in my opinion.. I base that on a lot of things but the quality of VW is better than toyota, the toyota will rust easier than golf which is a big problem where I live.
