Hey guys,

Ok i may soon spend only around £35 on a new headset.

I currently use  a logitech precision headset  - https://img73.imageshack.us/img73/4779/precisionbf5.jpg

I also recently bought and x-fi extreme gamer sound card (if that influences the decision?)

So do i go with an :

Icemat Siberia Headset with mic - https://img73.imageshack.us/img73/1930/241606ajp5.jpg

or

Speed-link medusa 5.1 progamer Headphones - https://img73.imageshack.us/img73/6854/565170aos7.jpg

Or recommend a different headset entirely?

Many thanks,

mitch

If anyone has the icemat headphones and mic could you let us know how far away you are from the mic, where you've mounted it, and if your voice can still be heard sufficiently over ts/vent/VOIP in-game?

Thanks again

I've got the Icemat, it's pretty good. The clip-on mic is annoying, but I just clipped it to the headphone cable and people can hear me fine in CS:S.

My old monitor was too clunky for the clip. If you've got a monitor that's pretty much flat at the top of the back, then it's fine. If it goes out into a slant at the top, then it's not quite as good.

19" and it's rectangular and flat

Yeah that looks about right... just run your hand across the top back of the screen. If it's flat the whole way for at least 2 or 3 inches then the mount should work fine.

Medusas are awesome. I have a pair of the Home edition with the break out box. The mic is fantastic, i can have it right on top of the head set and still be heard in Ventrilo. But normally i have it about 5cm from my mouth.

As far as I know, it is a clip on thing (so it can be put on to monitors etc)

hmm i really like the look of the icemats but my worry is that when the mic is monitor-mounted it'll be too quiet - i guess i could always mount it somewhere else.

I can enable mic boost through my x-fi software anyways ...

What's so special about the sennheiser's raven? I could buy the 161 set ... also do your wear them like normal headsets or do they sit with the band behind your head?

thanks

You wear them like normal headsets.
They are just superb quality headphones and give sensational microphone quality/clarity. The best headphones I've ever had are by Sennheiser and it has a great microphone. I can't recommend them enough - nothing quite compares to them. Quite, the 161 would be a great purchase.

Good luck with whatever you buy!
All the best,
Andy

i think you've convinced us andy - just so u know i've also just bought an x-fi extreme gamer sound card a few weeks ago

just a few more questions if ya don't mind :

1. Which set do you own?
2. How do they respond to bass? Ie. can you listen to heavy rock music, DVD explosions and in-game sounds well?
3. Are the 161's £10 better than the 151's?
4. Do they use an audio/mic jack or USB?

Thanks again

mitch

icemat- but if you're not going to be buying these immediately, watch for the name change. SteelSeries bought out Icemat Siberia and is changing the name to SteelSeries Siberia. Exact same headphones, just different name.

they will be available mid-august
