Just got a Samsung spinpoint t66 500gb etc etc hard drive - mounted it, plugged it in, sorted it out in the bios. I intend to use it for storage for now (while my current 200gb hdd will keep the vista installation). Vista recognised a new harddrive when it started up, and installed the software. It recognises it's there, and I can find it in the device manager, but I can't find it in my computer.

How do i get it to show up in vista? (the current "two" harddrives that you can see are partitions of my 200GB hdd, by the way)

Vista should be able to do that as it's not being used by anything

right?

I dunno anything about vista mate, sorry, but in xp it needs to be formatted with a partition etc iirc.

It should be able to, but it won't format it until you tell it to. I don't know about Vista, but other versions of Windows required you to go to Disk Management and format it there before it shows up elsewhere.

Oh god, he didn't choose Quick Format.

Or should that be lol?

i did anyway. quick format seems to have worked fine, luckily.

Now, does anyone know how to delete files beyond the capabilities of windows itself? I can't get rid of some directories on my old drive. All I want it to have is windows and programs, but some directories contain old windows-protected files from an automatic backup that I can't delete.

Uh... System Restore? Stop the service then start it again, it makes a new one.
