I currently have a Dell Dimension 9200 with 1GB of ram.  I'm upgrading my ram to 2GB, but I need some advie. I have 4 slots for ram, and 2 are currently used by 512mb strips.  Should I buy 2x1GB stips and replace the old ram, or buy 2 more 512mb strips?  My current ram speed is 533mhz btw.

Either way would provide the same results, although going for the 1 gb 2x512mb sticks will be a cheaper method.

I'm having problems with finding the right type of ram that is compatible with my system. Like I said my current ram speed is only 533 mhz. The 2x512mb strips im coming up with are 667 mhz. If it comes to it, I can always save up more and buy the 2x1gb strips.
EDIT: In the case of ram, would having more mhz be faster? I haven't really thought of that.

Generally ram will clock it self to the slowest speed in the machine at the time.  I recently purchased 2x 1gb sticks for my pc, their speed is 800, yet my board only supports 533/667 and they automatically clocked them selves down to proper speed.  You should be fine with 667.

So bascially with speeds of ram, the only concern is if its too slow?

Yes, most will automatically clock ram down to the fastest speed the board will run the ram, but if you put, as an example, 533 ram in a DDR2 800 board, it wouldn't  run, but the other way around should work.  It can clock down but not up

Just realized made a small typo that would totally screw you up, 533 in an 800 wouldn't work but the vice versa would.

You can run the Crucial Scanner to determine exactly what RAM you need. If you get 800MHz RAM and your computer can only take 533MHz, then the 800MHz RAM will downgrade itself to that level (usually).

Thanks, I've ordered it now.
EDIT: I had done that Kyle, and found the ram I wanted, thanks.
