Actually, his mis-understanding of how the "fly-by-wire" system would react to immediate full throttle after a low flyby at the airshow.
The onboard computer did not spool up the engines to full thrust because that would be "in-efficient".
It was not programmed for airshow aerobatics.
Both the computer and the pilot had to be reprogrammed. (just kidding, he was charged with manslaughter, since 3 people died in the crash)
