Ok, I bought a vista laptop and installed BF2 following the instructions on the Vista Help sticky.
Running in XP compat mode and as Admin.

When I run the game, i get the splash screen, the screen goes blank as if to load the game, then i get glorious desktop again.

I did a quick search and couldn't find anything on this (all problems seem to be with joining a server, not actually just loading the game)

help is greatly appreciated!

And don't say "install XP". not an option

Just spent all my money on this pissing laptop cuz i live abroad (i moved from england to germany) and i want to stay mobile. i didn't buy it specifically for BF2, but would have beeen nice. I guess the same applies for 2142

Will have to play at the internet cafe then. *sigh*

If i run this and it says FAIL in the video card section, I guess that means Ive no chance or running bf2 on my vista laptop, correct?

No mate, absolutely no way you can do it on onboard graphics, when i was building my PC, i ordered the game at the same time so I'd have something to play when it was built, the game came before the PC so i tried it on my laptop, pretty much same specs as yours, no joy. The only possible way of playing bf2 on a laptop is gettin' an external Video card, which is stupidly expensive and i don't even know if they're in production yet, but with them you need a monitor as well. There ya go --->>> http://crave.cnet.co.uk/laptops/0,39029 … 742,00.htm
I mean, gaming pc's are pretty cheap nowadays, but they're only cheap if you have the money, You can get a pretty standard pc that'll run bf2 and alot others for 5 - 600 quid.

That was a reply to Adam i think, i dunno, im confused as to who's post this now, did adam hijack it?

Thanks for the answer, yeah I hijacked the thread, my problem is the same as the OP's though so it was pointless to start a new thread.

Negative

I have the same problem like you, the exact same symptoms. I used the site that was posted here and it turns out ,like your situation, my video card can't handle it. It has something to do with shadows and lighting... Shame but +1 to commiechipmunk, now I actually know what's causing it.
