Somatic writes "In the latest saga over online gaming addiction in China, the parents of a 13-year-old Tianjin boy are suing the makers of World of Warcraft, blaming the game for the death of their son, according to the Chinese news agency Xinhua. The parents filed a suit against Blizzard Entertainment on Wednesday, saying their son jumped to his death while reenacting a scene from the game, the report said. The parents are backed by the anti-Internet addiction advocate Zhang Chunliang. Mr. Chunliang has spoken to 63 parents whose children have allegedly suffered from online gaming addiction and plans to file a class-action suit, according to the report."

Personal Comment on this: I think this is "Natural Selection" at it's best. If you die because of a video game then I think it was merely meant to be. Stupid mentally deranged children.

I was thinking of jumping out of an F-15 while it was doing a loop and landing back in it again. Honestly as sparklet mentioned, it is up to the parents to get involved in what their children are doing and act accordingly.

So... he was clearly reinacting Warcraft right?... I mean to say... he wasn't reinacting bungy-jumping or anything from real life? Because, you know jumping happens in real life.

This is so pathetic. It's like blaming Pac-Man if you're overweight.

Pac Man Dead at 24

https://www.dailyprobe.com/arcs/122804/pacman2.jpg

Tarzana, Calif. (DPI) - Otto Burger, better known to the world as video game pioneer Pac Man, was found dead in his lavish California condominium last Thursday by his landlord. An autopsy report revealed the cause of death to be extreme starvation brought on by anorexia nervosa.

His personal physician, Dr. Mario Tortini, said he had been diagnosed with anorexia six months ago because of a lifetime of eating for a living. "It was too much for him," Dr. Tortini said. "He said he would wake up every morning and look in the mirror and hate the giant fat head that was looking back at him."

Medical records show Man had also struggled with drug addiction following the wild success of his first self-titled game in the early '80s with "power pills," which doctors said are a form of steroids commonly used to give patients with weaker immune systems short bouts of strength.

In order to overcome his addiction, he threw himself into his work, according to Atari founder Nolan Bushnell. "He quit cold turkey," Bushnell said. "He replaced his need to work with his need for drugs. I can't imagine how hard it was for him to do that, but he did it."

It took him another four years and five titles later to overcome his addiction, but his constant eating took a toll on his body and his mental well-being, his son Otto Burger Jr., AKA Jr. Pac Man, said.

"He put on a lot of weight during that time, he certainly didn't look like the same person," Burger said. "His job required it, but he never blamed the industry to making him addicted. I feel a little differently about that, but he loved his work so much that it never occurred to him what kind of a toll it was having on his physical well-being."

Man will be buried in a private ceremony on Monday with only family and friends in attendees. Pallbearers include friends and co-workers Pinky, Blinky, Inky and Clyde.

Um, anorexia is not eating enough. How can he starve to death if he's eating all the time? Interesting Obituary though.

He died from not eating because he couldn't stand himself fat from eating all the time. That's part of the irony in the faux article.

God WTF is the wrong with people today...

As a parent, it's your responsibility to take care of your kid. If you think he's playing too many video games, then STOP HIM. There's a 99.99% that this guy was playing for hours, maybe even days on end, and yet his parents did nothing to stop him. I highly doubt he played for half an hour and died from jumping. If you see your kid playing for such an extended period of time, know when to stop them.

Stupid parents. All they want to do is blame others and get rich off their asses for something that's their own damn fault.

And BTW, I bet that Pac-Man article is fake. I Google'd, Yahoo'd, and MSN'd in "Otto Burger" and found only 1 link to that article or even anything related to it.

Yeah. I knew I had played Battlefield for a too large chunk when I started scanning the the horizon with crosshairs in my minds eye. Also when I heard a jeep I seriously considered diving into a bush. I heard a chopper too. It scared me.

I'm surprised nothing like this has happened in the US...  People always have to blame someone else for their misery, and the best way to blame someone is to sue their asses.  If you get some money out of it, great!

Well, usually this is true, but occasionally RL takes the cake.  Here is a perfect example:

Ya think??  Maybe you need to get on top of a building and follow Charles Darwin's rules of natural selection.

Man, you need to go back to the 7th grade and learn how to comprehend the written word.

BTW FAUX means FAKE so get a life, get educated if you can although the world needs ditchdiggers too and quit signing your welfare checks as "champion F-35 pilot".

Blizzard needs to open a can of wh00p-ass on those parents. Its like parents of overweight kids sueing McDonalds. You had the power of choice, you abused it, you screwed up your life, now its someone else's fault?!

I can't believe how stupid people can be even in this day and age.  I hope those parents get a whole lot of NOTHING from Blizzard.  It's not Blizz's fault the kid and the parents are smacktards.

Yeah I fucking hate people nowadays, especially the ones that don't know how to raise their kids. Like polarbearz said how can you sue McDonalds for your kid getting fat. I mean what can you actually say about it "I didn't know it would make him fat" or "I thought it was healthy for him" Seriously wtf these people need to get off their asses and actually get involved in their kids lifes and the kids need to stop being such dumbasses. Anyways that kid that jumped probably did it because his parents most likely acted like they didn't give a shit about him.

ok if your kid is mental enough to jump to their death, id say he/she has a little more wrong with them then an online game addiction. they should be put in a nut house where the voices in their heads can tell them to do bad stuff but can't do anything about it.

It gets worse on this site.

www.mavav.org or Mothers against Video Game Addiction and Violence.
The kid's parents are just using WoW as an excuse to milk as much money as possible from their child's death, they don't want the blame, so they blame their son's hobby, ignorance in it's purest state. It's a parent's responsibility to control what their children are exposed to.
