How many of you actually know a $2 bill exists? I was on my clans forums and one member (he's canadian, but still) didn't know it existed. Then I was reading  this wikipedia page, and there are tons of stories who don't believe these are real, and thought they were counterfeit.

I know they are real. I used to get them all the time at holidays and I carry one around in my wallet.

I'm from Canada, and I knew that they did exist.  It was my understanding that they are no longer standard currency though.

EDIT: How about the two dollar coin?  The toonie
"How could Canada ever take an economic crisis seriously?  They call their money loonies and toonies!"

The two dollar bill exists, and is still legal tender. However, nobody uses it because of its relative rarity.

On some of the 2 dollar bills you will see a small ribbon that state "Silver Certificate" if you have one dont spend or get rid of it, they are very rare and at one time and point you could trade in the 2 dollar bill and get 2 dollars worth of silver from the Government.  Right after we were taken off the Gold Exchange that stopped and so did the production of the Silver Certificate.

Here is some better info on that.

There are a few features that distinguish a Silver Certificate. The seal and serial numbers on many of the first Silver Certificates issued were red or brown. It was not until Series 1899 for the $1, $2, and $5 denominations that the seal and number colors were officially and permanently changed to blue. (This occurred at different points for denominations above $5). During World War II the government issued 1935a Silver Certificates with a brown seal for Hawaii distribution and 1935a certificates with a yellow seal for North Africa distribution. The idea was that if these areas fell into enemy hands during the war, the money would be able to be easily identified and cancelled so as to prevent large monetary losses.

The obligation of a note states how much of a specific commodity the government of a country will "pay to the bearer." On most large-size Silver Certificates, the obligation reads: "This certifies that there have/has been deposited in the Treasury of the United States of America (number) silver dollar(s) payable to the bearer on demand." On small-sized Silver Certificates beginning with Series 1934, in order to denote current location of deposit, it was changed to read: "This certifies that there is on deposit in the Treasury of the United States of America (number) dollar(s) in silver payable to the bearer on demand."

Why not spend them?  It's not like you can't go to the bank and get as many as you want...

I have/had a nickel that my sister cut half way with a scissor. (She sold knives and she used it as a demonstration of how sharp their cutlery was. One of their products apparently includes a scissor.)

There was a NZ two dollar bill ages ago, (I think phased out in 1979,) I've still got one because Dad put one in his pocket before he left for Switzerland and didn't wear the pants he put it in until 2002.
