Computer that i have now:
AMD athlon XP2000+ 1.67ghz ( yes I know it's old and slow LOL stop laughing)
1-40gb Western Digital HD EIDE
1- 250 WesternDigital SE Caviar SE EIDE (New)
1- PCI Soundblaster 24-bit soundcard
1- ATI 9250 256mb PCI Videocard
!- Memorex DVD Recorder-Player CD Internal EIDE 48X
1GB Kingston 2700 ddr of ram 184 pin

Any suggestion would be very helpful.

Yeah...maybe the 250 HDD, but not much there is salvagable for a new comp. Especially for a gaming comp.

i would suggest starting from scratch. maybe using the HDD's, especially if you want to keep most of your files, but other than that, everything is just way too outdated.

what is your budget?

ya your not gonna get very far with $300 and expect to do some serious gaming on it. i would do what you can to save up AT LEAST $500, then consider upgrading.

Yeah start from scratch and you will need more than 500, think 1 k minimum. Right now you are so far behind the ball it has stopped for a smoke and a croissant with a French whore waiting for you.

ahh, i remember the days.  totally, need an overhaul dude.  it's middle july.  take your saved $ and hold off on upgrade till around christmas where you should be able to request more components or parts from "santa claus" and get your upgrade all at once.  unless your folks won't buy you computer parts for christmas.  If not go to newegg.com and start doing some homework (don't worry it's fun).  Start looking at components you will need (CPU, MOBO, GPU, RAM, PSU,), create a wishlist, and see how much it will cost you.  keep adding or subtracting from your wishlist till you get what you want.  Best part about newegg (0ther than their low prices) is the feedback on each component.  READ the feedback and go from there.  if thousands of people are satisified with an intel 6600 conroe, then chances are it's a keeper.  Seriously, newegg is a great tool to use when shopping for a new computer, don't settle for best buy or a "dell".  upgrading my computer is one of my favorite hobbies and newegg is a GIANT part of that.  happy hunting man.  pm me if you have any questions on any component.

first of all... nice job. he will need windows which will run him at least 100 more.

second of all... have the 7-series really come down THAT much since the 8 series?

third of all... i can play max settings (even AA) on an X1300PRO 256MB. so idk what you mean with this medium settings.

fourth of all... he lives in the states like me. we dont get the P5B-PLUS. that always annoyed me, since i know its one of their best boards for the money. and besides, P965 is kinda old news. i would say the Asus P5N-E 650i. its an awesome board.

fifth of all... if he is willing to overclock (its not that hard dude. in most BIOS its self explanitory, especially if you have an Asus board) then he could pull off an E4300, maybe even an E2140. extra cache wont give him anything satisfying enough. that can shave off a LOT of money.

sixth of all... DO NOT EVER EVER EVER BUY AN ANTEC POWER SUPPLY THEY ARE SHIT THEY HAVE A TERRIBLE LITTLE REP OF FAILING. a 400W FSP will be more than enough power.

Think he is meaning in general, it depends machine to machine yea?  And, strictly speaking, any card can run any game on high settings, its the speed of which it does it that makes the difference, few mates of mine wont even attempt to play a game less there averaging 50 fps on any given set up.  What does yours manage?
