Those are just filmed in New Zealand not produced by them. All those movies are from American companies.Ty wrote:
Question: Why the Hell is New Zealand not on the list? Lord of the Rings anyone? No? King Kong then maybe? The Last Samurai? River Queen? World's Fastest Indian?
We've got more in the works too: Halo and The Dambusters are ones you may have heard of.
Directors? Well we've got Peter Jackson, (LOTR, King Kong among many others,) Martin Campbell, (Goldeneye, Casino Royal,) Andrew Niccol, (Lord of War, and a writer of The Truman Show,) Lee Tamahori, (Die Another Day, Along Came a Spider, Once were Warriors,) Andrew Adamson, (Shrek 1 & 2 and the Narnia film series.)
Strangely enough even after that brief overview countrys like South Korea still makes it named on the list while NZ does not. Sucks to be a little country eh.
Or Australia for that matter? Sure we have our share of 'old school' Aussie movies that most likely we only find good, but our studios in Sydney have been used for many large films. Off the top of my head, I know that parts of the Matrix, and the newer Star Wars films were filmed here.Ty wrote:

I would have voted for Ty's NZ film industry.

Actually no, the major ones, (LOTR Trilogy, King Kong, Narnia among others,) were only funded by American companies like New Line Cinema and whathaveyou. It was just investment. A lot of the cost of production was also fronted by the NZ taxpayer. If a movie's crew, director, producer, special effects crew and writers are all from a country you don't suddenly say that they're American just because some, (i.e. not all,) of it's funding came from American companies.Cubanpenguin wrote:

And as bad as some American movies are they also make far to many good ones. Maybe i'm not quite as exposed to other countries movies but the US can churn out exciting and funny movies every week.
It's actually the biggest film industry in the world. However it's not exactly targeted to our demographic lolSimon wrote:

Perhaps the people who speak a language that is not relevant in the movie scene and have a tradition of using subtitles instead of crappy dubbing (like the French/German). Every movie I watch has subtitles. Although the past few years, if the main language is English in the movie I turn 'em off.trackstarr wrote:

'cos we live in such a depressing place if we didn't have such a sense of humour we would all be emo.S.Lythberg wrote:
USA has the best sci-fi, fantasy, and horror industries, but the brits win hands down for comedy, they're just funny for some reason.

The U.S.A. makes the most truelly awesome movies; Apocalypse Now, The Departed, Shawshank Redemtion etc. etc.
However, The U.S.A. is also guilty of making movies so shitty that it defies logic and the laws of physics.
Epic Movie anyone?
