I just got a new 22 inch widescreen monitor, a big step from my old 17 inch crt monitor. I'm looking to get the best graphics out of it and i am wondering if theres anything i should re adjust on my computer so it can perform the best. The maximum resolution is 1680X 1050. I set my computer resolution to that and i am wondering what else i should adjust?

Do a search, BF2 hates widescreen....I still cant get it to play in 1400X900
Some guides say you can set custom widescreen resolution in the video cfg, but for me it just crashes.

Im able to play on my 24in Dell Monitor at 1600 x 1200 with no problem. Could it be that Im running SLI configuration ? I dont really know. All I know is that when I finished building the PC it game me the opinion to play on it and it was wonderful.

Running 1680x1050 no problems with a Dell 22" wide and eVGA 8800 GTS 640. If you're having problems getting it to work, I'd suggest the following:

1) trash your Video.CON file from My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\000x where 'x' is whichever account you're using
2) run the game, change all the video settings to how to want them
3) exit
4) edit BF2 shortcut and change the end of the target line to:  +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050
5) try it

The video settings in BF2 will still list whichever resolution was selected before, but as long as you run from that shortcut it should display properly in-game.

i have a 22in as well that just crashes bf2 on me when i run it at 1680-1050, it is due to the vid card overheating at that resolution, i have an X1950pro, got it when they just came out and did not have heat spreaders on the VRMs, fuckin idiots ATI is at times, i cant even play bf2 in the dead on summer on a sweaty ass day or it crashes the PC, with the infamous Beep.. beepbeep vid car error, restart fixes it, there are 13 fans in my case/oncase, its pretty over ventilated, plus 2 high powered 2600rpm ones directly under vid card in an open pci slot. sure i could drop graphics, (maxed 6x AA, 98-100fps) but fuck that, ati give me a new card.

lol, yeah I mean 1440...And I did use 1440 not 1400 when trying to set it up....

without adjusting the resolution it will still work, however the screen will be streched. Not only is the image distorted (bugs me a bit tbh) but more importantly The scale across your moniter will be wider then the scale up and down your moniter and your mouse will have different sensitivities in either direction so that if you were to make perfect circle with your mouse they would come out as elipses on screen.

playing a game @ 4:3 resolution on a 16:10 moniter is a bit different then playing completely in widescreen mode (why didn't they just support widescreen )

Wide screen gives players the added advantage of a wider/better point of view.
And we couldn't have that, it would be unfair Which doesn't make sense. A lot of people have wide screen monitors.
