Wow, do we suck. Here we are comparing two Superpowers (during the 1980's) via a movie...made with movie clips. While both films are very well made and have a great deal of theatrical presence they are both just movies. While I have never seen the movie "9 platoon" I can compare it, via the clips in the forums here, as an equal to the film "Saving Private Ryan" while "Jarhead" is more of a stereotypical view of the gulf war seen through the eyes of a confused young man. Now, all I have to do is find me a copy of "9 platoon" with English subs as that movie looks very very good indeed.

Who would win the ground war? It would be close as hell, especially have tactical nukes weren't involved. The Warsaw pact had numbers, NATO had technology. As long as the sea lanes were kept open and the US was able to supply Europe then NATO would come out the winner, if you think nuclear war has a winner.
And may I suggest you improve your grammar, if you're from England then English should be your first language. I really dont understand what you are saying in these posts, I pretty much took a guess as to what you were saying.

Depending at which time you mean, the start or end of cold war....
At the start U.S had more and in the end, at the time of the events of these movies you're debating, the USSR had a lot more.

Except they were given nearly NO training, since they were only conscripts and kept in the army for a couple years. They did not even learn to use a radio until they were made an NCO, and they actually had to enlist to stay in to do that. Not all of their troops even had SOCKS. I met a couple Russian artillery officers visting our FA battery in Bosnia in 1996 during a live fire excersise. After speaking with them (through a translator) I lost all fear of Russian artillery. Their idea of accuracy was orders of magnatude behind ours.
The US troops were better trained, had better equipment, and had equipment designed from the outset to counter the larger soviet numbers. Maybe they still would have overrun Germany through the Fulda Gap. It would not have been a cakewalk. Not as easy as you would make it seem, however.
But, then again, why do you think the US created medium range nukes? Nuclear artillery shells?
