Sadly, Musicmatch is gonna die on August 31st, so I'm in need of a new music download provider.

TBH, I'd like to avoid iTunes.

Any good suggestions? I don't want to pay a monthly subscription, just for the songs I purchase.

eMusic is a good one. You get a free trial of 40 songs. I used it up and then quit it, though. I prefer to buy the actual CDs and not download just the files. I like having the physical CD there with its album artwork and booklet and all that.

I also use Ruckus as well. My university sponsors their program so anything I find on Ruckus can be downloaded for free. Only problem with that is that the files are .wmv and encoded, so I have to use another program to re-record them into mp3 files and put them into my main music library.

Taken down about a week ago.....they've already got a replacement up though.

Edit: Although it too seems to be down now!

As long as you don't download anything dodgey (always go for the ones that seem realistically popular, have a decent size and are mp3 files) then this is your best option.

iTunes is just cheap. Ok waste about 500 dollars on 500 songs ripoff, no? Also I would of spent over 300 dollars on songs if it wasn't for limewire .

Cheap as chips and I've never had any problems with them, 19cent (in US currency) per track plus discounts if you're buying a whole album. The only catch is the minimum payment is $5, which isn't much of a catch. All downloads are in mp3 format.

Limewire, torrent the album, or if you really want to buy it go with allofmp3. But be aware, it is down or under maintenance about half the time.

I find Soulseek better for music personally (it's 99.9999% music on there no other files really).
