I have compiled a collection of tips for Karkand with the mind that it will increase player par overall, so that everyone will have mad skills. I have put this here to show that you CAN have tactics in Karkand, not just spray and pray.

Part 1: Protecting your bases from those who would sneak around the Hotel using the far right road (According to the US uncap.).

Ah, the Square. So peaceful, so serene, AND ABOUT TO BE OVERWHELMED BY PEOPLE WHO SNUCK AROUND THE HOTEL, UNLESS YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! (The left is the most obvious approach, so get someone to watch your back for this.)
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen000.jpg

Notice this building:
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen001.jpg

This is road we will protect (The building with the red arrow will be used, the landing with the blue circle is our target.):
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen002-1.jpg

You, or you and a buddy, (To stay on the building and cover the square for you.) will climb the ladder at the back of the building.
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen003.jpg

Sprint straight at the target. Once you reach the edge of the building, jump, you should land on the target like so:
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen004.jpg

And Voila! Now it's time to own people who think they're James Bond or something!

Part 2: Defending the cement factory.

Snipers rejoice! You can now effectively defend a control point in a city! Snipers: Meh, what, one good position? Me: Not true! I counted 17 places to snipe from, meaning you can defend from all directions! Snipers: YAY!

Here is the battle-ground:
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen005.jpg

Notice this stairway lately?
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen006.jpg

Climb it and whoa! A whole hallway filled with windows to snipe from!
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen007.jpg

Like so:
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen008.jpg

There's balconies too!
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen009.jpg

Around the corner, there is a huge chimney. walk around it and... TA-DA! Another sniping perch!
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen010.png

And another balcony...
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen011.png

And yet another...
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen012.png

Back on the ground, Have you noticed THIS baby?
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen013.png

Climb it and... another perch!
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen014.jpg

Climb the ladder on it and you'll reach another...
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen015.jpg

This isn't a very good one, so you should just parachute onto the roof behind it. Crawl on your belly to the edge, look down, and... perfect!
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen016.jpg

Now from here, could hop onto the lower roof and snipe the people crossing the river form the train accident...
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen017.jpg

...or jump onto the top of the chimney and snipe from there.
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen018.jpg

Now right below this is a small causeway, which you can snipe from also. On it I found the strangest glitch I've ever seen: You can see straight through the chimney! (No, you can't shoot through it, so don't get any ideas!)
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen019.jpg

O.K., recap: 6 windows, 4 balconies, 1 perch behind the chimney, 1 stair landing, 1 ladder platform, 2 rooftops, 1 chimney, 1 causeway.
6+4+1+1+1+2+1+1=17! See, I told you!

Part 3: Defending the Factory.

In this place I found only 1 great place to defend from, (Snipers: Aw, man!) but it will help you defend against lots of enemies!

Here is the battle ground:
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen020.png

Notice how cramped it is? Luckily you can overcome this by using THIS building, right next to the flag!
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen021.png

Climb it and now you can stop whoever comes in this little death box!
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen022.jpg

To elaborate for this "lack" of places to defend from, an interesting note is that there are two towers that are very fun to jump off of, and there is also this glitch that I found. (Do you like the new MEC flag?)
https://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa35/sep1jam/screen023.png

Now I know what most of you are thinking: Where's the Square, or the Hotel, or all the other bases?

In answer to that question, I did not want to write about all the places people knew about already, my goal was to increase player par by showing you better ways to defend in Karkand. Thanks for reading my guide.

It's just a bunch of sniping place we have already heard of ages ago. Tbh

I've already used all but the first hiding spot. But they're good spots nonetheless.

And usually people look up on the roofs at the last tip.

Ok, Kamikazi, that's pretty good, but seriously, everybody already know about that.

Good guide for someone who has played 28 hours, though.

But most people (Like me) have a huge bunch of shame to drag on... Hours and hours on Karkand. I have 500+ hours on it

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

The Factory's roof is actually a better (sniping) place than the flag area's roof, accesible with the southern crane.

Eh... I knew that some people knew about this. (O.K., I thought there'd be less.) Although, I made this because I have NEVER, EVER seen someone use these... I guess I need to play with you guys then?

Everybody know about them, but people are too busy whoring around with their G36E OP guns, so they tend to not use them.

Wake with vehicles FTW!

Karkand is the worst map in the game yet if I want to play this game I am subjected to the gayness of it cause the only euro servers that are full late night are usually 24/7 karkand.

Nothing but nades, claymores and pkm/rpk noobs.

The second location is pretty good (I use it pretty frequently, and often command from up there), but the first one is not a good idea. You don't really have much to hide behind and when you're on a balcony you can't move around and make yourself a hard target to hit.

Read Marinejuana's infy guide (and watch the vids) to learn about the importance of having something you can duck behind when you're being shot at.

that's great, except that it's always an APC that caps cement factory.

Well maybe if the guide showed something more than just spots on the map that anyone could run to whenever they wanted I'd be a little more convinced that this is a worthwhile guide to read.

any half decent player already knows about all of these (except the first one.. can you even get there on non-FF-OFF servers?)

but +1 for effort anyway, there should be a warning for 52k poeple though

AHAh ya they are kinda obvious places to use for a karkand veteran. its just that a handful of the time the MEC just love to be all crunched in the hotel and thus they lose. they must be spread on all sides to prevent sneaky USMC.

Thanx for this guide Kamikazi, it is nice to see screenshots of all the spots there. I know some of them, but I have not played sniper a lot (9 hours total), and have not played Karkland much either (16-17 hours or so), so thanks for the effort! It will be helpful to me.

One note to all of you out there to whom these spots are old hat -- the position on the roof overlooking cement factory must not be THAT well known, because I commanded 2 entire rounds from up there. I was killed a few times from enemy arty but never got shot from the ground. I do not think I was ever even shot AT from the ground (if I was, they missed by a mile lol) although I shot at quite a few bad guys trying to cap the flag. I also shot at, from the opposite side of the roof, some bad guys crossing the river and I do not think they knew where I was at.

Anyways thanks again for the spots, a couple of other nice spots are in the tree on the wall near square, and on top of the burned out APC near hotel, and the rail-to-roof spot overlooking hotel, but I am sure everybody knows about them too LOL

OH one more thing RE teamwork -- when I was commanding from the roof, my scan always picked up one lone bad guy way out on the far end of the waterside crane near factory. He could not hit anything from there, he could not even SEE anything from there, what was he doing there. turns out he was a squad leader, his squad would spawn on him and rush in to take factory while all of our team was fighting at train wreck or hotel / square. Dunno if this is old news also, but it was new to ME and it was a real thorn in our side. fyi

Thanks again for the spots though Kamikazi, keep up the good work!!

My tank rounds can hit your spots @ cement factory except up the steps, then up the ladder, and camp on the platform.

All right people, I'm thinking of adding the other bases and secrets that I find, because I know you love to hate me.
