According to your theory and mine on the bird on the wire, why would he need that suit and expel the electricity to the helicopter? OK, so its just filmed for that film, its not a real job and electricity doesn't work like that.
p.s. Your quote thing is from Black Hawk Down
As long as you never touch the ground, or complete a circuit between 2 different voltage wires, then you will never get electrocuted... The principle works much the same as birds on a wire.. how do you think they don't get fried?
What......why would he need the suit, he's not touching the ground! Think about the bird on the wire.....it doesn't get fried because he's not touching the ground!Miller wrote:

He probably doesn't need the suit but everyone loves to sue now so its probably there just to act as an unnecesary safety precaution in case he does complete a circuit.
Probably because he is touching more then 1 wire.Miller wrote:

And if you've ever gone walking on some Power line trails, you'll know there is no way in hell that a Truck is going to get in there.
So they take a Helicopter.
Heres a Prime Example of what I'm talking about (took this pic in May), unless they are riding ATV's or Dirtbikes, they have to fly in..
The work platform, skid tubes and helicopter are electrically connected so that they will all be at the same electrical potential when working on a power line.buLLet_t00th wrote:

I'm doubting the whole helicopter bit completely because its waaaay too dangerous. The film itself is obviously fake, take some of the camera angels for example and the crappy blue/green screen work.
The rest, for me, seems so far fetched that I don't believe it until I see it or get it from something more reliable than a vid on YouTube.

Danger! High voltage!
What’s it like to repair a live powerline from a helicopter? We find out from the pros.

Lol, its not fake dude. I watched an entire documentary about those guys on tv (think it was the discovery channel or something). And someone said that video is from an I-max movie...
Now I believe that they actually do it, but I'm still suspect on the video, it just looks too dodgey!

Bloody QuikTime crashes Firefox.....I'm guessing its filming that video or something?
I believe you about what they do now.

Its a corporation that does this; they are a different one than that particular (youtube) video.buLLet_t00th wrote:

They have a different helicopter & platform setup.
P.S. Fisherman (fishing say in the cold North Atlantic) is consistently one of the most dangerous jobs.

OK, here's how the thing in the video works.
1. As you can see, he comes in by helicopter and hangs from the lines, this means he's not grounded.
2. He's wearing a steel mesh suit, this may seem silly, but this is based on the principles of the Faraday cage, as long as you are inside an electrified cage, you can not be electrocuted.
It's all physics guys, this is an actual job.
