I'm currently looking into two laptops, they're very comparable in all aspects.
I'm open to all comments and advice on these or other laptops, as this is my first laptop. I've heard rumors of there being a price drop in core 2 duo processors soon, not sure if that includes santa rosa chip-sets though.

Thanks for any and all advice.

Why don't you just get a desktop?

Looks similar tbh, apart from the warranty and the webcam... I would go with the cheaper one and upgrade the warranty later if you need it.

I already have a desktop, this isn't so much for gaming as it is for school.
But I'm willing to pay the extra cash to further future-proof it/ have the specs to play BF2.
The only cons I have with the Asus are the flashing lights on the side and the WASD keys being illuminated.

I'd go with the Asus since I'm pretty sure the build of the Asus is better than the Dell.

They're both more than enough to play BF2 at high details.

I agree, I'll more than likely go with the G1S-A1 unless I can find a better deal In the next few weeks.
At least with the Asus I don't have to pay taxes. =P

Oh yeah, but if you can find Dell coupons, the price should come out much lower than the G1S, that might kind of weigh in on your decision.

The 1520 coupon is $350.00 off of any 1520 notebook configured for $1399.00 or more.

and the Asus comes with a free bag and mouse. The mouse is a rebranded MX518.

Here's a user review for the G1S. None for the 1520 because it's relatively new.

Get the Asus one. It's equal or better in every way that counts. Better battery and DVDRW - who cares about webcam resolution anyway....

To be completely honest, I probably won't ever even use the webcam.
I'm not sure how much of a difference it would make in gaming but I could upgrade the HDD to 7200 RPM on the dell and stay under the price of the ASUS.
Does anyone know anything about the Asus C90 laptop? From what I've seen it used a desktop processor & other components, wouldn't that get hot as hell?

Maybe. It'd certainly eat up your battery.
