Click on BF2 link, I get the splash screen, it goes black, then back to desktop with no error.

Model - HP dv9500 Notebook
OS - Vista Ultimate 64
System Memory - 2046MB
Graphics Card - Nvidia Geforce 8600M GS 1008MB total Video Memory
Display Driver - 7.15.0011.0134
Display Mode - 1680 x 1050 (32bit) (59Hz which cannot be changed)
DirectX - 10
Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 @ 2GHz
Sound Device - Realtek HD Audio
Sound Driver - 6.00.0001.5384

I was told by EA tech support that the game doesn't support anything below 60Hz. They said to check forums to modify the game files to accept 59Hz. I also tried running in compatability mode for XP SP2 with full admin rights and same problem.

I've tried modifying the video.con file, uninstalling/re-installing, updating drivers and nothing has worked.  I connect an external LCD widecreen monitor and the game works fine.

I had this same issue for a couple of months.  It was Nvidia video card drivers related.  The most recent drivers have eliminated the problem for me.  That would be version 158.24 you need to update to.  Hope this helps...

I tried to install the drivers and got the error msg " The NVIDIA setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware.  Setup will now exit"

This is frustrating.  I'm stuck playing BF2 on XBOX 360 which sucks cause people hack in and cheat.
Can anyone help??

You definatley tried editing "video.con" in C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Settings ?  try adding this here:

VideoSettings.setResolution 1680 x 1050@59Hz       although im not sure if that resolution is ok, try changing the resolution at that line if it doesnt work.

Good luck

I tried every thing in the FAQ section about this issue and nothing works.  i'm at a loss.  It doesn't make much sense.  i play counter strike source and half life 2 on this notebook fine.  BF2 just doesn't want to run on this monitor.
