electron microscope... you know what that is, right...
if you do know that than you must not know how data is stored on a HD...
I think it was a figure of speech.
ehh... probably   but the resemblance seemed like it could be a mistake by the author

Even if you do use a Hard drive scrubber, the FBI can find out if you used one, and charge you for destruction of Evidence.

They could do that even if before they were to look at your computer(wanting to look at it), you used the "scrubber".

And they cannot know what the files were so it cannot be sure that there was any evidence on there in the first place.

I may be wrong, in fact... i know little about charging(yah, that don't sound right) people, but this would make since to me.

Haha, forgot about that.

If everyone's so nervous, here's what you can do to save yourself from a raid.

Two hard drives that you swap out of you computer, or, if you got's skillz, an external hard drive to boot a seperate OS, that will contain all your favorite illegal activities, terrorist interests, child pron, drug recipes, stolen information, illegally owned copyrighted movies, songs, and programs...you cheap, perverted, demented, drugged up, criminal piece of shit.

EDIT: just be sure to hide your perv hard drive in a good spot.

What they can do is use the electron scanning microscope to view the surface of the HD.  Then from that they can tell if you have a series of 1's and 0's.  Then if they have enough 1's and 0's from the surface of the HD they can recover that file or at least a portion of the file.  DOD standards is rewriting a section of HD 7 times (technically 21 times... (1a) Rewrite the section with 1's (1b) Rewrite the section with 0's (1c) Rewrite the section with random 1's and 0's).  Then it cannot be viewed by an electron scanning microscope.

you don't happen to have a source for that do you?

EDIT: nevermind... however you need a Scanning Electron Microscope to be able to do that unless i am wrong on that too...

When deleting, it just takes the first letter off of the file, and sticks it into a seperate folder that gets overwritten later on.
When you restore the file, it just sticks the letter back on and you've got it back again.
