Based PURELY on aesthetics, I'd have to say the XM8. It looks like RAWRRRRRRR.

Based purely on lore, I'd have to say the M16 family (preferably the later models).

Based purely on I think "I want it if only it were legal", I'd go with the P90. It looks like mmmmmmmmmmm.

takes huge, gigantic, boulder sized balls to fight a war with one of these.

OH! Actual favorite hand-held projectile flinging weapon?
hmm...

HK 417.
M16 'form and function' + short stroke piston (cleaner, more reliable than gas-driven m16) + HK reliability and ruggedness + good old 7.62x51 rounds.
Give me one of those with a 20" barrel (or longer), plenty of ammo, and a good Schmidt und Bender scope.
splash!

why does SF have all the useful, practical shit while conventional forces gotta reinvent the wheel to get shit done.  to be a Green Beret...

the thompson has to be the most fun i have ever had with a firearm in my life.
once you feel the recoil a few times, you can just roll with it while you empty the mag.
not a big fan of the huge drum mag though.

oh and the 1911 of course.

Well, it's getting better.
In the early 90's, it was almost an Article-15 to throw "personally owned accessories" like a scope on your issued weapon.
Now, you guys have your 1913 rails on everything but your underwear.. toys, toys, everywhere.

And, GS, there are reserve/guard SF units..

http://www.il.ngb.army.mil/Army/UnitWeb … efault.htm
Illinois National Guard, 20th SFG.
(I think there are 2 others that are Res/NG.  One's in CA, IIRC)
yeah, over there at Los Alamitos.  they might as well be active duty,  probably just 3 weeks shorter training time than the regular SF.  My options will grow soon enough though, i got a reenlistment contract coming my way shortly.   but damn, i just wanna finish school. at least get my Associates.

FN FAL, reliable as an AK, shoots .308 (stopping power is good), easy to control, accurate, and thanks to the adjustable gas system it isn't picky about ammo like many other guns in it's class (M14).

That's cute.  Did a friend let you pose with his baby in the backyard?

I find it hard to believe an A1C assigned to a civil engineering squadron would need training in anti-material fire-arms.

I hate it when people pose with guns.  Don't take it personally.

my favorite:
rifle: remington 700 .308
handgun: springfield 1911 .45 acp
sub-machine gun: h&k mp5
light machinegun: m249 saw
crew served (heavy machinegun): mk-19 fully auto 40 mm grenade launcher
finally somebody else who has used the SAW and likes it.  We're a rare bunch.
as long as you took care of it, it ran like a raped ape!!  i was so good with the saw that my co made me give a class on how to clean the weapon so that it fired correctly,  it was quite easy.  what sucked was when i got squad leader they wanted me to keep the saw, instead of issuing me a 203!!
