I get into a server, everything is fine then 3 minutes into it, my ping goes up to 500+ and it never goes back down.  Has this happened to any of you?  I just reinstalled the game because this was happening and also reformatted my computer so I don't know what to do anymore. 
I've been playing BF2 for well over a year and this just started happening to me.

Heya mate, sounds like an ISP problem. Is this happening at around the same time every time? Is anything updating in the background, like windows updating etc? Using a router?

Call your ISP and ask for a line check, also if you have wireless make sure you have a WEP code, could be caused by someone on your network or a wireless leecher downloading stuff while you play.

Also, more obviously, close ares, bittorrent and other file sharing peer to peer programs before playing.
