The 8800GTS isn't really classified as a "midline" DX10 card; at the moment, it's the second best DX10 card available (there's little difference between the 320Mb and 640Mb versions, unless you're running at super high resolutions, say, 1920x1200). Additionally, he'll see much better performance running in DX10 mode as opposed to DX9. DX10 is much more efficient than DX9, and the G80 was designed with it in mind. Most of what I've read has said that DX10 cuts the required CPU use to as little as 1/10 of what's needed in DX9, meaning huge performance gains.The_Mac wrote:

But if they're actually using all this time and delay to optimize even more for DX10, you might get smoother performance.
As long as you get 64 Bit Vista your 64 bit processor and its 2 core will be taken full advantage of. Crysis is optimized to run on multiple cores, so it looks like you're set.
The RAM is definitely good.
But yeah, that rig should handle it without much trouble.

I think you have it switched up. The 2900XT is a brute at stock speed, but because of the heat it produces, it's not one for over clocking. it beats the stock 8800GTS, but because the stock 8800GTS can OC like a beast, it depends.secshunayt wrote:

The 8800GTS dropped in price because of that, nVidia lowered prices to appear more favorable because of steeper competition. Usually, companies want to most money possible. Dropping prices means recognizing defeat. Look at AMD vs Intel in the past year.

Ok, here's the thing, according to benchmarks at dailytech The 2900XT beats the 8800GTS, while the 2900XTX loses to the 8800GTX. Also - 2900 is on the par for buying as the GTS, but Tomshardware does not even mention it, they recommend the 8800GTS 640mb.
I pre-ordered it at my local gamestop, even though my PC can't really handle it. At least it'll be on hand for a new rig.
I like how they mention the 6800 Ultra in a "for the money" table when the card is hardly available anymore and is as overpriced as ever.

Both 2900 XT and 8800 GTS are considered as high-end cards. And yes, you will be able to run Crysis fine with them, don't panic.

Just downloaded the DX10 version demo of Lost Planet, my 8800GTX CANNOT PLAY IT WITH EVERYTHING ON HIGH! I get about 10fps with everything on high.
I doubt my 8800GTX will play Crysis DX10 version with everything on high then.....BOLLOCKS!

I wouldn't say rubbish but it will be hard to use the engine to its full potential in terms of battle scenarios and stuff.
I think they should do like two modes one with a dumbed down version of the engine for pick up and play stuff with not too much of the physics so it won't lag up peoples pc's and satisfy the pick up and play crowd. Then the full blown version offering all the tactical stuff, I would really like to see co-op stuff maybe from the mod side of things that would be so cool 3-4 nanotech human players running around shooting Koreans.

And guys, I think Lost Planet is only slow cause its dev team didn't optimize it well enough. The only devs that would make a game that is far too intense for the best of the bet computers would be DICE
