Well just got this game, tried it out on max, 1280x1024 with HDR on and everything at full, roaming about i get like 50 fps but it still seems jumpy, like when im moving it suddenly jumps, and when i get on horse its bad even though i still have 50 fps, i used fraps to measure my fps so maybe tht is shit? and also when i go into the wooded areas i get below 30, is this because my gfx card isnt supported? and when i press default settings it puts them all at low, even though i can handle more, BTW just wondering should these specs be able to play oblivion on all high settings without any trouble?

Dual core @2x 1.86GHz pentium
2GB DDR2 ram
256 mb nVidia 8600GTS

I answered your question. You are playing oblivion. You evidently don't have a fucking clue, so here: Oblivion is a very demanding game. Turn down the settings. It defaults to low because it doesnt recognise your video card. Of course, it does support it.

I dont know why. You could try "The System Requirements Lab". It is an applet that figures out your computers specs and gives suggestions to improve them. I have oblivion on my laptop, and I have my settings on around medium/low, and my frame rate is fine... When did you get it? My PC is new, (September 06) and it cant handle it. Again, as Sarge said, Oblivion is a highly demanding game. Is the frame rate unbearable? Can you not do anything? If it is, then i dont know. If it isnt, than I guess your going to have to just deal with it. (Not trying to be rude, but not a lot I can do). I lag a bit when I drop a couple pieces of phat lewt, lol, and when I go on murderous rampages, but other than that, im fine.

You have an 8600 gts... thats like a 7900 gt except dx10.

Try turning HDR off see what you get. Like SargeV1.4 implied, it is a super demanding game in terms of resources. What are you measuring fps with?

I asked this question in another thread but got no direct answer, so I'm gonna post it up again. I have a laptop with a X1400 256MB Hypermemory graphics card (yes, I CAN hear you laughing, even from my room in Sydney) will I be able to get decent FPS with the game. I do intend to set everything to low, with 100% distance scale and distant lands enabled though.

Maybe it was but 512+ MB cards > 256 MB cards
