Not enough people see that far ahead in their lives to consider cause and effect, those who do however may not like the ultimatium at all and shut it out, it sad really

Please how is it selfish to drink and smoke? I understand your pain bro and I feel ya but I fail to see how smoking and drinking is selfish, maybe it is because I do both but please elaborate so I understand more where you are coming from.CommieChipmunk wrote:
So.. right now, my grandpa's sitting in a hospice care center, he's been there for about a month, he's 83. Now that's not a short life by any means, but I love the man and I've only been here 16 years. He's full of great stories and he's a great guy to just sit and talk to. He has COPD and emphysema from smoking all of his life, he's tried to quit but like a lot of people he can't. Smoking is going to kill him. My other grandpa (in his early seventies) also has emphysema and is traveling down the same, slow, painful path that my other grandpa took. He's was a heavy smoker, he quit recently, and still is a heavy drinker. The damage is done.
Why the hell do people do this to themselves? I see kids all over the place smoking cigarettes like they're going to live forever, like they're invincible or something. Personally, when I'm in my 80s or 90s, hell my great grandpa lived to be 104 and was still all there and mobile at 103, I want to be enjoying life, spending time with my family, my grandkids, children... not laying in some bed trying to breathe.
It's a personal choice, but certainly a selfish one. Hopefully you won't make the same mistake.
I was lucky enough to catch the bodies exhibition in Prague last week http://www.bodiestheexhibition.com/ and saw a comparison between a healthy pair of lungs and the pair of a smoker of the same age. It was absolutely disgusting, they were horribly bloated and almost jet black.
its selfish because you eventually hurt the people that love you....ghostgr wrote:

i have been smoking for well over a decade and im only 25. my wife quit just over a month ago and its been time for me to quit for awhile now. thats my battle, and its going to be a motherfucker.
when i started i was in 8th grade and all of my friends were in high school. it was the typical "im going to do it, cause all of the cool kids are."
i knew better, it just didnt matter to me then. later on i went to rehab and then jail, and neither of those places will tell you its bad......in fact the rehab i was in pretty much endorsed it to help you through your sobriety. even though i was never a drug addict the judge thought that rehab was in order for someone that sold drugs. LOL gotta love the US judicial system.
That is not a case of ignorance. It is a case of addiction. He knows perfectly well what will happen to him. He just can't beat the addiction. In the case of other people, it's a case of pure stupidity. They also know what happens to most people, but they do it anyway figuring that they are somehow different of stronger than other people, and that they can beat it when the time comes.CommieChipmunk wrote:

Exactly, a friend's dad once told us that cigarettes are the vice of the pendejos, and its because of that. And if u smoke lots of weed and cigarettes thats double %#@^&$LT.Victim wrote:

I smoke like a madman. Why, you ask. Because I became addicted. It off course all started because of wanting to be cool. There is usually no other excuse. You're not beginning because it tastes nice, because the first time you smoke it's...well...disgusting.
Going to stop next year probably. There are plans for...ehm...reproduction..

Smoking is enjoyable and cool. Why wouldn't you want to smoke? If you happen to die from it, so be it, there are plenty of things you can die from and most aren't nearly as fun.
Condolences to your Grandfather, I mean that, but he's had a good innings.
Condolences to your Grandfather, I mean that, but he's had a good innings.
In your elders day the dangers were not as well known, certainly weren’t spoke of as much as they are now.
I have old time magazines from my Grand Aunt with articles on
“ Which cigarettes Doctors recommend the most. “
“ Good for your digestion processes ! “
Adds that state “ More Doctors recommend Kent “
In the last stages, most fatal diseases have the same look and symptoms.
Lives were shorter and many deaths went undiagnosed. A great majority died in bed at home.
Some people will do anything to feel a sense of belonging
IE “ Bush Sux ! “ “Fox Sucks ! “ etc etc etc.
Being part of a larger whole gives them confidence they lack in real life, a sense of power they never feel in reality and a comfort of knowing they kinda look like every one else does.
It’s a heard mentality if you will. The funny thing is these are the people who usually call everyone “sheep “
You never heard anyone say “ They got a Tattoo to be an individual “ They were BORN an individual. Yet the tattoo is the only thing on their body that is virtually identical to anyone else’s who choose that same tattoo. And you have to admit there seems to be a preponderance of one or two Most popular tattoos.
Luckily Some of us will grow up, Quit smoking, Sheepishly have our tattoos removed and quietly become conservatives. Most people Quit smoking, Sheepishly have our tattoos removed become conservatives as they leave their “Twenties “ A greater percentage of women stay liberals. A glaring exception is the Hollywood elite. When surrounded by sycophants assuring them every word the espouse is an act of genus, few ever reach the glaring light of day.
Pick your own examples.

Back when your grandfather started smoking, they didn't know the risks assiciated, or how addictive nicotine is. Now a days they do.CommieChipmunk wrote:

It helps calm you down, I smoked for awhile, about 9 months, it wasn't to hard to quit though, I would only smoke a pack a week, and anyways, I'm 15 so that probably helped. Glad I quit, its not worth it, talk to ATG, he used to chew tobacco, thats pretty bad as well.LT.Victim wrote:
