All I can say that most any reasonably intelligent person understands the origins of democracy.

I hear people say stupid stuff all the time, but I don't think that it's indicative of the populace at large.

I always figured the 'freedom' stuff came from the war for independence.  You know....throw off a king, setup a sort of democracy and all that.  At that point in time, most world powers had kings/queens, not elections.  Over time, it has lost it's meaning, sure.

I like those laws created by a bunch of biggots that spend most of their time looking at their secretary's ass.

It was the greeks. The Romans pretty much copied the Greeks in everything they did.

Thanks for the input, but do Americans in general know that the Greeks invented Democracy because I heard an American claim they did the other day.
Actually what we have is a representitive republic based loosely upon the Roman model. I think that we do understand that we did not invent it....just that it fell out of fashion for a number of centuries until being brought back into vogue by the U.S.

Are you "free" to walk naked on the lawn at Buckingham Palace? Can you drive on the right hand side of the road in London? Can you eat mince pies on Christmas? No, OMG....You Brits aren't 'free' either.  Trying to base the banning of trousers that do not cover what they are meant to and decrying the lack of 'freedom' is rather ludicrous Esteban.

You obviously didn't read my previous post so I'll say it again.  I'm not saying we are more free in Britain, I am saying we are no less free and nor are the Swedes, Australians or Germans to name a few.  Yet America likes to proclaim freedom as unique to them and I am trying to find out why.  This has nothing to do with Britain in fact so you're making tenious and more over bullshit connections and using them as a way to discredit me.

You care way too much about the stupidest shit. Who said we have more freedom? Why would you care? If they're happier than a pig in shit because they perceive themselves to be in the "best" country in the world, why would you wanna bring them down from that? You're infringing on my freedom, man.

Esteban, take a hard look at your own title...America bans baggy trousers, where's the "Freedom"? ... and you should understand what I am responding to.

As to the question posed by your original post, I have already answered that.

Its not ban against baggy trousers, it's a ban against walking around with your ass out.

Pull the head out.

Freedom?  It’s what defines our country in a general sense.  I don’t have direct experience with the level of freedom in other countries, all I can go on is what I’ve learned from others.

I know my country isn’t perfect, but I’m proud to live here and don’t apologize for my love of the United States.  Baggy trousers weren’t banned either, it’s how their being worn that’s the issue.  If a town wants to tell their citizens not to show their underwear and pull up their pants, they have that right.  Big deal. Those that like to show off their drawers can vote in new representatives when the election comes around again.  There are countries that allow more blatant exposure in public than the US, but the majority of citizens support the way things are or they’d demand change.

Gun banners turn the channel because I’m about to start talking about firearms.  I truly believe the right to own the weapon of one’s choosing gives citizens of the US a level of freedom that citizens of other westernized nations do not have anymore.  If the government goes haywire and suspends elections what are you going to do without weapons to rise up?  That's why our brand of freedom is unique, we still have the means to defend it.

LOL, I know, some forget that the world has got a lot of history before 1790.  We have a pub in Oxford that is older than America which always makes me laugh and yes it still is open for business...
Are you sure your not talking about the Sequoias that are thousands of years old?

The most important question has yet to be raised.

Boxer shorts = underwear

Speedos or swim shorts = far more revealing than boxers sticking out of trousers.

Does this mean there are no public swimming facilities in this town or are the police going to picket the local baths?
