Since yesterday when I have tried to join some servers and I click the join button, the login screen freezes up (not all servers though). I was getting ready to reinstall BF2, but then one of the players in our group was having the same exact issue on the same servers as I. I'm thinking it could be a punk buster issue. Are any of you out there experiencing the same issue?

No it isn't just Comcast, I have Verizon Fios with the same problem. Check out this EA forum link we are not alone. I hope EA will see that there is a problem and fix it quick. As far as Hwy. to Tampa map I know ppl that have it w/o this problem.
Not a comcast issue as I have it here with Time Warner...
Also it is not limited to 64 player servers as I experienced it logging into OFOA and ATF Hump & Dump...
I did not download the TAMPA map...maybe it is becuase thier servers did, and I did not? I just do not know, except that I had no problem until Sunday night.

This is another link to the same issue, I hope EA is taking note that this is a widespread problem that started around June 10th. If any of you find another forum posting this issue please post it here and on the EA BF2 forum.

Still no real response from ea.
This is the response from EA on their forum, I don't have time right now to try this, but if anyone has success with this please post your results.
Thanks and good luck.

I played BF2 on my clan's servers like usual June 8th, but when I tried to join on June 9th, the game simply froze. I was able to alt+tab and get out of BF2, but it was unresponsive and I had to kill it. I tried multiple times, restarting my computer and restarting my DSL modem. I am able to join most servers, just not my clan's servers (where I keep a 40-60 ping). I tried joining by IP instead of favorites, but had the same problem. I tried going into BF2 and deleting my profiles and that had no effect. I tried manually updating punkbuster, and that had no effect. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling BF2 and SF, and that had no effect. I tried using an old account and that had no effect. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the Highway Tampa map, as I just installed that within the past couple of days. 3 other guys in my clan are having the same problem. This all seems to have started happening in the past couple of days. Any suggestions?

Hi,
Thanks for writing us at EA Technical Support. I understand that you are currently having crash and online issues with Battlefield 2 with the expansions and boosters installed. I apologize for your situation, and the inconvenience that this causes you. I would like to ask a few questions to help resolve the issue.
Have you tried the game without downloading ro installing the beta map and seen ift he issue persisted?
If the above fails to resolve the issue, then the issue may be caused by a corruption in the game data. To rule this out, you will need to uninstall the game, clear the temp folders, reinstall the game, redownload and reinstall the patch.
Please follow the steps below:
Uninstall Battlefield 2: Special Forces (if applicable), and the Battlefield 2 base game using the uninstall program, Add/Remove Programs, or manual uninstall for Battlefield 2
http://support.ea. com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=8986
and Battlefield 2 Special Forces (if applicable).

Try cleaning out your Temporary directory. Do not delete the folder itself, open the folder, select all of the contents, and then delete them. Often you will get an error that some of these files can't be deleted. This is usually because they are currently in use, so first let's end any program that would be using these temporary files.
· Hold down the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys at the same time
· Click the "Processes" tab.
· Click on the gray bar in the middle column that says User Name to sort by user name.
· Do NOT select anything for SYSTEM, LOCAL SERVICE, or NETWORK SERVICE.
· Click on anything besides EXPLORER and TASKMGR for this User Name or other user names.
· Click on END PROCESS
· Repeat these steps until only explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe are open for this user profile.
Note that some applications may take multiple times before closing. Don't worry that you are permanently changing your system configuration; these applications will return when you restart your system. Once this step has been completed, please proceed to the steps below.
· Double click on "My Computer"
· Double click on the C: drive
· Double click on the "Windows" folder.
· Double click on the "Temp" folder.
· Hold the "CTRL" key and tap the "A" key to select all.
· Tap the "Delete" key on your keyboard and accept the "Are you sure you want to delete these files" prompt.
To ensure a proper installation of the Battlefield 2 series, please install in the following order. If you do not have all of the expansion and booster packs please skip and install the next software on the list.
Install Battlefield 2
Note: If you have the Battlefield 2 Deluxe pack, install and skip to step 3.
Install Battlefield 2: Special Forces.
Install the 1.41 full patch.
This patch can be found here.
http: //largedownloads.ea.com/pub/patches/BF2/1.41
Install Battlefield 2: Armored Fury.
Install Battlefield 2: Euro Force.
Install the 1.41 full patch once again.
Once this is done you will have the complete installation of the Battlefield 2 series lineup.
I hope this helps and that you will be able to run the game without issue. If you have any other questions feel free to reply to this e-mail, and I will be very glad to help you out to the best of my ability.

Leonard,
I followed all of your steps described above and the problem persists. I can still join many 'pub' servers, but whenever I attempt to join my clan's server, my screen freezes, BF2 becomes unresponsive, and I have to Alt+Tab to get out, then kill BF2 from Task Manager. There were some posts on some forums suggesting that this may be a punkbuster server-side issue? Please investigate and advise.
So anyhow, I tried everything they suggested and it made no difference. Yall don't waste your time. It seems that EA's support staff doesn't understand the scope of the problem, and are still at the stage of blaming 'the usual suspects.' I'll post back if I get anything useful from them.
Thanks and good luck.

looks like they some of the guys not EA have tracked it down to some internet back bone company called SAVVIS. those that were able to take them out of the route seem to be back to normal.mofo65 wrote:

I don't think it's a PB/EA problem.
On the computer you play on, go to Start / RUN
Type in cmd then hit enter
type in - tracert XXX.xxx.XXX.xxx
put in your servers IP address in place of the xx's and hit enter. See if you see SAVVIS listed on any /many of the hops to the server.

It was affected by Savvis Communications apparently, some Atlanta and Dallas servers are associated with them, but after ppl complained to them they fixed the problem.
