B. Schuss - Fight Club is definitly worth seeing.  Can't tell you anything more cause of the "Rules of Fight Club"

The director also made "The Game" with Michael Douglass and Sean Penn, "Seven" with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman.  Check 'em out if you haven't already.  Good stuff.

As for the quote "The Things We Own Begin To Own Us", some people these days are very materialistic, where others don't tend to give two hoots to holler about it.  I've noticed that depending on where you reside, how you've been raised, and cultural influences also have an effect on your stance regarding this as well.  For example, inner city Houstonians tend to be more concerned with materialistic gains and status, where as your Boondock country folk really care more about living and experiences and less about what they have.  Of course, you get both sides of the spectrum no matter where you look, urban or rural.

Myself, I tend to be more about living for experiences and less about aquisitions, but I consider myself to be privileged enough to have the means to have traveled about quite a bit. (sorry if it sounds snotty)

Kung Jew describes it rather well but in addition let me give an example that is closer to home for those on this forum.

"The Things We Own Begin To Own Us"

We all own a computer. This computer is different for most of us. Different specs, different power, different maximum potential. For some we payed for every part of the computer and for others they were gifted by another (usually parents) the privelege of having a computer. We all play BF2 on said computer and enjoy the game immensely. We structure time in our days to play BF2. Many of us upgraded parts on our computers for the sole reason to play BF2 better. We talk about BF2 on this forum, we discuss BF2 with our friends, we angst and bitch about bugs, errors, new expansions, having to pay money, etc and some of us even dream about BF2.

Now this is just one game. We all own multiple games and sometimes multiple gaming platforms (Playstation, Xbox PSP etc.)

We now view our lives with money as a big portion of that life. That money is referenced in our heads and compared to tangible objects. For example some may look at $110 in the terms of 2 Game Console Games, some may look at it and think about a piece of hardware, other may see 2 weeks worth of groceries or gas for their car or a part of rent. We all put a tangible object or bill in mind when looking at money.

When that tangile object or bill is all we think about when money is references then it becomes our life. Debt becomes your life, that computer you want becomes your life.

Hence you see to be free to do what you want because the things you own begin to own you. When was the last time you did something during your free time besides playing BF2 or working on your computer? If the answer to that is a considerably long time then you know the exact meaning of the statement.

Cheers.
