hey guys ...

ok my problem is my framerate - and i had the same a few months ago. basically the game plays fine ... not MASSIVE fps but always playable ... then after a while - it just drops to <15 (last time reaching lows of 4fps! )

the only thing that fixed it was a reformat ... and i don't really wanna have to reformat again - but will if i have to. Any ideas guys?

i've tried updating sound/graphics drivers ... and will maybe try a full reinstall of 2142 also.

i'm currently running a thorough scan of my entire system - though i'm doubtful this will find anything ...

(this was the original post i put on another forum when it happened the first time - i no longer think it's broadband related though -

hi all,

ok so since i patched on friday i've been getting an FPS lock at around 15, making the game unplayable rly. I occasionally get an FPS of around 20-25 but any higher is only on the loading screens.

https://img164.imageshack.us/img164/4591/666666mp5.png

I've tried reinstalling and repatching but that didn't work.

to add to the problem my ISP has locked my line @ 128k  for over-usage  , though my ping stays at it's normal <20.

As soon as sky's available in my area i'm done with PN.

So specs are :
Intel P4 w/HT 531 3.0Ghz
SATA 80 gig 7200RPM Int. HD + 250gig Ext. HD
1.5gig DDr400 PC3200 RAM
512mb Nvidia 7900GS
Integrated Sound card

Never had this problem before - but it feels like getting horrendous titan lag 24/7

I don't really know what else to try - but i don't think 15FPS is right with a 7900

btw - nothing has changed particularily either - i'm stumped.Only thing is the patch but no-one else has had this so idk!

EDIT/just checked my FPS in SF :

:?

Help appreciated,
mitch  :? -

Specs are:

P4 w/ HT 3.0Ghz
Stock mobo
1536mb PC3200 RAM
512mb 7900GS

Many thanks,
Mitch

again, nothing has changed .... it's just begun to happen

it might have messed with your resolution?  causing a different framerate, that is...
does your res look the same as before the patch?

Well you ARE playing in a full 64 on Gibralter. Turn down settings. Update graphic drivers.

DEFINITELY not your computer....unless you have a crappy virus that attacks fps.

it's a 48 players max (my clans server), gfx drivers have been updated and it's pretty much the samer rate wherever i go ...

EDIT ; just remembered i only have a 315W PSU (came stock! FLAME ON! j/k) - but if this was the problem it would be permanent rather than every now and then wouldn't it?

ALSO : don't think it's the specs ... the options down the left are medium, everything on the right off or low except view distance scale ... res is 1440x1050 @ 75 Hz i think

No fucking idea man, any background programs? Even ones that may not seem like they are there? Downloads? OH OH HOH OH! I bet you anything its when a lot of people are using the internet around your house. When ever you get super low fps, shut off game immediately and check to see if internet's slow.

Your processor isnt anythign to write home about, you could use more ram, 2 gigs dual channel is th way to go w/ bf2/2142. Personally i think it is your computer.  I hope you didnt think you should be getting 60fps or something w/ it.  I would turn down your settings, turn AA off, and play on smaller servers.

it definately looks like you have too high settings on a map you can't handle.... and you need a new PSU probably

If you'd actually read, this is not the case. This has only happened once before for a little while after patch, then stopped. Effing read the posts.

^thankyou. I know Ryan who also browses these forums has a similar setup, with all on high and AA on 2 - and i've spoken to many people who have my card and similar setup and run much higher settings. I don't think my PC should be at 60FPS with all on high and AA x 4 - but i think i should get at least 15 fps with everything on medium/off and AA off :S

i think it might be your psu because your 7900 needs a bigger psu to run it
get a 550psu or more
it will only cost u about £25 ish

You've got a pretty decent computer bro. I highly doubt its that. My comp i think has worse specs than yours and I can run everything on high (though I don't know what anti-aliasing is [if anyone wishes to explain go ahead]). My comp is an iMac, 24-in (like 55-something cm), 2.16 ghz, 1gig RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT graphics, dual core intel processor. I run all my games on bootcamp (soon to be Parallels 3.0) and everything works great. The only think left I can think of is:

Background programs. Even ones that may not seem like they are there. Downloads. OR I bet you anything its also when a lot of people are using the internet around your house. When ever you get super low fps, shut off game immediately and check to see if internet's slow as well.[

Hm, the 7900GS is based on the older 7800GT and the 7900GT. It´s a known fact that those cards have some issues with BF 2142. But a easy solution is to create a profile with the Nvidia tool for each game and do all wanted settings there.

Dont use the ingame graphics options!!!

i had pretty much the same problem because my CPU was over heating. Clean out ure fan and heatsink and that might solve he problem.

8800GTX = 100 FPS + 1200x1050 (or something similar).

Really: Get a new PSU if its only 315 or whatever. That limits what can do what, so your graphics card may only be going on 30% of its potential.
