8800 GTS, but you have to also consider your processor, PSU and RAM.

What is your PSU? Power Supply Unit rating?
Either get an overclocked version of the 320MB or a 640MB one.

Ouch. You're gonna wanna update that to at least 550 watts, especially if you get an 8800 GTS.

Ah, okay. Works for you then.

If you can go higher, go higher. Especially if you plan to go SLi.

2 components are hardly "specs."

I'm sure if he gives the full list it will be different than yours.

But is the 3500+ on a board with PCI-e? Mine still has AGP.

But...I'd say it's new rig time.

If they say a 7800 GTX will run it on high why do you think an 8800gts will only play on medium???

Why does everyone automaticly suggest the best graphics card in the market? not everybody wants to spend £200 £300+ just for a graphics card especially when he only has a AMD 3500 which is not good enough for a GTX it will bottleneck at the CPU.

You need to know what Size monitor he has and what sort of budget.

8500gt will run crysis on low settings up to a 15-17in monitor getting 30-50fps -- cost £50 $90

8600gts will run crysis on medium-some on high settings up to a 17-20 inch monitor getting 40-60 fps -- cost £90 $160

8800gts will run crysis on high settings up to a 20-24 inch monitor getting 60-90 fps -- cost £180 $300

8800gtx will run crysis with every setting on max on a 24 inch+ monitor getting 100+ fps -- cost £370 $550

No he isn't. That's way more than he needs. You only need a total of 30A on the combined 12V rails for a GTX a GTS requires much less - at peak usage it draws about 13-16A (compared to the GTXs 18-20A).
His PSU may well be fine. 400W is very often perfectly sufficient for an 8800GTS. I've run one on a crappy 380W Antec one for a little while and even a dirty QTEC PSU, no issues either time, though didn't do any OCing.

Don't listen to the inevitable PSU lies. Everyone always seems convinced you need 100000000000000W PSUs to run any sort of high end GPU, it's not true.

A lot of people are chatting a lot of rubbish on this thread. This always seems to happen when threads about Crysis pop up. As has been mentioned, a 7800GTX can run Crysis at highish medium settings, DX10 cards will have an advantage, not only in graphical splendour, but also in speed. DX10 mode is much quicker. An 8800GTS should run Crysis nicely at high settings, probably not absolutely maxed out, but certainly at high settings.

This is really confusing me, why get any sort of overclocked version of a Graphics card and buy alot more while you can just get the normal standard clocked one, buy it and go home then use Coolbits or the ATI drivers to slide the bars?

No offence, but no. An 8800GTS will NOT run Crysis with everything maxed out at 1920x1200 or 2560x1600. That is the most bullshit speculations I've seen so far. Sorry! >.<

Because of the typically higher build quality, those cards often OC better than other ones. Sometimes not though.

And no, an 8800GTS won't run Crysis on high at 1920x1200. But he said on 20-24" monitors, which have a typical resolution of 1680x1050 (in these days of widescreen monitors) and Crysis will run ok on high at that resolution on an 8800GTS.

So what he said is quite correct (although 24" screens that support 1920x1200 won't run it fast at that res).

20 21 and 22 inch monitors (well most) run at 1680 x1050 Widescreen or 1600x1200 4:3, 2560x1600 is for like 30 inch monitors, no where in my post did i say an 8800gts will run a 30 inch monitor. Maybe if i had put 20-23.9999999 inch monitors it would have been clearer for you to understand. But i still fail to see why it is  "the most bullshit speculations I've seen so far" I dont claim that what i wrote was 100% accurate but it aint that far off

I don't think the FPS' will be that high, but around 10-20 less fps than you predicted, but still smooth.

If you really want to know how Crysis will run, on different bits of hardware then i suggest reading this http://www.crysis-online.com/forum/inde … 487.0.html

You will NOT have to shell out for a top end graphics card to play Crysis. You WILL have to shell out if you want to play it with DX10 and all settings maxed out on anything abouve 1280 x 1024.

It really depends what you want, but remember like Proffiteroles says if you buy a top end GPU you may need to look at overclocking or upgrading your CPU as it may bottleneck the performance.
