The era of tax-free e-mail, Internet shopping and broadband connections could end this fall, if recent proposals in the U.S. Congress prove successful.

Taxes on email? Maybe an isp surcharge, but they could never tax on a single email. How would/could you even enforce it.

I don't kn9ow CNET isn't a bogus source for this stuff. But remember that next year is an election year so everyone who wants to get reelected should stay clear this law or else.

You know, it's funny how the Democrats are being blamed when a Congressman that's quoted in this article is Republican -- Michael Enzi of Wyoming.

It looks to me like this is really a case of bipartisan corruption...

I know what you mean...  If they actually pull this shit, I'm fucking moving to Canada.  I realize our government has shit for brains, but their stupidity still never ceases to amaze me....

Bottom line:

States and municipalities are frequently barred by federal law from collecting both access and sales taxes, but those taxes could yield billions of dollars in new revenue by next year.
And where the hell does all your rest of tax moneys goes to? Your private little bank account?

The more we shift the bulk of taxation to sales taxes, internet taxes, and property taxes and away from income taxes, the more the poor suffer while the rich get richer.

There is no way the government would tax the Internet.  That's just ridiculous.

Some states, like Texas, still enforce sales tax on all internet transactions for businesses based in their state.

For example, CompUSA (which is based in Texas) charges sales tax on all their transactions.

If they can enforce that, then it's hard to say what else they can....

You are correct, I haven't read that on any reliable news sites.

When I read a post like that I just jump on Snopes & search.  My bad.

Fact is if they do this they all lose their positions next election. No one will vote for them if they tax the internet.

Well, it would probably put an end to spam at least.  But overall it would suck testicles.
