Sorry for being slack.
Flight of the Conchords
"Hi everyone it's great to be in uh..."
*checks back of guitar*
"... uh, America."

These guy are from my home town and they are the fourth best folk comedy duo in New Zealand. That's not bad considering the have some contract with HBO to produce a sitcom series - dunno if it'll be any good, but I know their live stuff is awesome. Unique and very funny.
Have to use video - doesn't work with just audio.

Gangsta Folk Battle - "Hiphopopotumus vs. Rhymonocerous"

"Yeah that's right sometimes my lyrics are sex-ist but you lovely bitches know, should know I'm trying to correct this... "

Edit: how come I can only put one Youtube video up?? This thread is fucked up for some reason...

Next time: Uh... I dunno. I'll sort something out.

Okay I seem to have fxed that Opshop post. Something went wrong, I have no idea what, but I'll chalk that up as a fuck-up from my ISP.
Shihad

I know I did these guys last time, but they are my favourite band. I've been continually hawking their music for the past year and as a result have interested a few forum members which I'm stoked about, especially when regarding the short attention spans you guys seem to have.

Shihad have been pretty solidly touring in the last year, and have just gone into drummer Tom Larkin's Melbourne studio to record their next and seventh full album, (not counting the live CD nor the many EPs,) entitled at this stage "The Beutiful Machine."
Unlike last time where I berated you with nine or so Shihad singles this time I'm going to concentrate more on their live effort, which are legendary in Australasia.

First up is Home Again which is somewhat of a Kiwi anthem. I included it last time, but with the recorded version, which doesn't really hold a candle to the live version. This was released as a video when Shihad were under the name "Pacifier" which they had for two years to try and break into the American market, (Shihad sounds too much like Jihad.) American producers leashed them so in that period they produced some very good, but uninspiring generic rock tracks. "Home Again" however is from 1998 Shihad, so it's uniquely New Zealand.

Next time: If you havn't noticed I'm kinda playing it by ear this time through.

Question: Why the fuck can't I post more than one video per post?

The second Shihad video I was going to post is their cover of Ace of Spades. Jon Togood isn't Lemmy Kilmister, but they still to a bloody awesome job. Ignore the pommy prick at the start, he's just a presenter for C4's, (NZ music TV channel,) show "Live @ Yours".
So DESPITE this thread not allowing me to post more than one video per post, here it is.

Hi!
The Mint Chicks

No they're not acutually chicks.
What they ARE though is probably the weirdest New Zealand band. To fully illustrate their weirdness I have included the video for their song "Opium of the People" off the album "Fuck the Golden Youth." I'm surprised I didn't add these guys last NZMM, probably because I thought they'd scare you off. They still might.

Weird as they are they do some really interesting stuff. Have a listen if you like weird alternative style music. The video is awesomely fucked up too.

Paul McLaney

This is one reason I really love NZMM. Just before I was flicking through TV channels when I stopped on one of the Music channels, Juice TV. It was just finishing playing "King of you All" by Fly My Pretties, (or more likely one of the members of Fly My Pretties,) and it changed to another live New Zealand artist. Every night they get a few artists together to play live, I should really watch it more.

Anyway, the guy who came after the FMP guy is called Paul McLaney. I think he actually has played with FMP once or twice but I'm not sure. Anyway, he played this track and it was awesome so I got on iTunes NZ and bought it. He's just released a CD and I'm actually really surprised that iTunes had it. Anyway I was playing it to myself and my family just wondered into my room to have a listen - that normally doesn't happen. McLaney is from Auckland and he's been around for just over six months. I'd never heard of him, but NZMM seems to bring out some really good unknown, (to me,) stuff.

Since I can't upload it I searched YouTube to see what I could find and there is a kind of poorly recorded version of the song performed at Luxembourg Gardens. Regardless it's still pretty cool. Check out his MySpace page, (the title of this post is the link,) as he has this song plus three others there. I actually suggest you listen to the song there rather than the YouTube one, but whatever.

Well I didn't do as well this year as last year. I blame being too busy. That and having nothing prepared. Oh well, I'll get at least 15 artists and enough CD quality downloadable songs to keep everyone happy next time, I'll prepare it throughout the year.

Keep an eye out for NZMM thread 2008.

Merging this with last year's thread now...

(Fateless, No I don't happen to have any Knightshade, but I'll get something from them for next year. Bloody difficult to get anything from them though, I'll look around Real Groovy.)
