I use an MX518 and i was wondering, the 2 buttons on the side, could i use them to scroll through weapons like the roller in the middle of the mouse?
Yes. Mount the front button to the same one as F <next weapon> and the other one mount <previous weapon>

Go into options. Go into controls. you should find colum that says 'previous weapon' and another that says 'next weapon'
Click on the empty space a few colums away and click the button you want that command mounted to.
do the same for the other one and the other button.
click apply and hopefully it will work.

I use the scrollwheel on my G5 Mouse for scrolling, the 2 buttons for sprint and prone.
the 518 has a nice feel to the wheel, i leave weapon cycle for it, if your used to it its cake, tiny flick for pistol lil bigger flick for shock paddles etc, no probs for me, so used to it cannot remember the last time i cycled to the wrong weapon. leave your side buttons for something useful like Single/auto etc, helps if your wielding the godly L85, or M16 when someone is aways away.
roger that. i use the mx518 scroll wheel for weapon select. once you've used it for awhile you'll learn to not overscroll, but there are times when i accidentally whip out my grenade when there is a guy right in front of me! pwnd. i use the one side button for fire selection (one round or auto fire). then of course i have my mouse sensitivity in ue
If you scroll to a weapon, you have to click to select. That's a fraction of a second that will get you killed. Better off using direct switching.
because you do have the time in a firefight to scroll through the weapons.....

I use the buttons to switch to pistol / nades.
