Something wrong with the stats?

Hi,

I'm not a constant visitor of this site but for 2 or 3 days, the queue for stats updates seems incredible big to me, right now there are about 35.000 People in it which, of course, take their time to be processed.
IIRC normally there weren't even 100 People in the queue most of the time.

Somewhere I read that EA's servers were slow sometimes, can't find it now. Is that the reason?

Looks a little odd to me and I'm just curious if there are any problems or if it's just my illusion

Possible reasons:

It's the Weekend.
Some problems with Gamespy/EA servers.
Abnormal amount of people.
For some reason BF2S' server decided to take a quick brake

Yeah, maybe.

But it seems to increase steadily. It was about 10.000 yesterday, 35.000 when I opened this thread and now it's almost 70.000.

I don't believe that there are 100 times more visitors than usually, even though it's weekend and stuff. Problems with EA's servers seem more likely.

Perhaps it could also be some kind of "DoS" attack, like

Not very likely but perhaps some admin should watch if there's something suspicious happening.

It's the weekend. It happens every weekend. And the reason it increases steadily is because it takes longer to update, so when people visit, it just adds to the already large number to update.

Don't worry, by Monday everything will be fine.

Wow, I never meant to start some kind of flamewar here.

If it's the usual weekend queue, everything's just fine.

If you could use some help to increase performance: name it and I (and others I suppose) will see what I can do.

Just ignore the trolls and keep up the good work!

It's a combination of a few things -- there is some abhorrent spidering going on. Nothing malicious, mind you, but innocently problematic. Secondly, the system that processes the queue is actually very fast and can chew through stats faster than I can get them from EA. To the fact, I actually have to SLOW DOWN my system when pulling stats or they throttle my connection. I run 3 threads of updates 24/7 -- I have run successful tests of 25+ threads without serious impact (that is until EA's system throttles my connection.) So believe me when I say, there is absolutely NO slow downs on my end.

As other have noted, weekends tend to see a build up. 24 hours later and it'll be gone so put your pants on and relax. I'll also be adding a little feature for queueing which will stop the spiders from causing queued stats.

Thanks for the info, chuy.

I was going to write another post (as the weekend is definitivly over now) but didn't want to be a pain in anybody's ass. Good to see an explantation.

If you need any help, just mention it. I'm a programmer myself and some PHP scripting should be an easy task (I don't doubt that you can do it on your own ). This is just an offer you can(!) refuse
