hey, can someone tell me if this is compatible with 1.41...

and, will PB get mad at me for modding my localization files?

However, I get enough issues now with PB kicking me for one reason or another (they still haven't got back to me) and not logging on due to "modified version" (which it isn't) I have to admit to being a little nervous about altering things.

I have edited the OP to reflect the changes I made April 26th 2007 due to numerous people harrasing me to fix stuff that was wrong. EG carbines (CAR) listed as assault rifles (AR), Jet names that were mispelled/wrong, some wrong damage on guns etc.

Plus I added a whole whack of new shit. Feel free to edit what you like / don't like.

You're the first one to have this problem but I think we can resolve it.

First, is your installation folder for BF2 and SF default?

When you copy and paste and relaunch bf2 does anything show up at all? Is it default, is it screwed up (corrupted files) etc. ?

Finally, the easiest thing for you to do, is manually find the installation folder and manually install the included files with EnglishNEW.zip:

YOURINSTALLATIONFOLDER\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Localization\English
copy paste and overwrite: xpackEnglish.utxt, English.utxt

YOURINSTALLATIONFOLDER\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\xpack\Localization\English
copy paste and overwrite: xpackEnglish.utxt

everything for the files works, pretty much. it says all the stuff it should, like when people get kicked its big at the top etc. and when people kill me, its even big when people kill me in the middle. what would i look for in which file to ensure its there?

also, the DONT CLICK thing for the refresh button didnt work but thats not really a problem for me ;P

I need to know specifically what doesn't work to help you but maybe you can figure it out:

Open English.utxt in your game directory, and press ctrl+f and search for: BUTTON_refresh

What does it say next to it? It should look like:

BUTTON_refresh                Do Not Click

What else doesn't work? If you can tell me what shows up weird/wrong we can find out where it is in your file. However, why it is doing it all in the first place I honestly don't know, lots of people have these files and your the first person that has ever had a problem. Have you tried redownloading the files in case they got mildly corrupted? Also did you install a booster pack or SF after you installed my files? You'd have to reinstall all my files if you installed SF for example.

That localization file might be even better than i have, good one!

What is written next to your HUD_CHAT_YOUGOTAKILLSCORE? Make sure you are checking your game folder, NOT englishNEW.zip because I already know it is correct in there lol.

Perhaps you can give me some screenshots of what in game looks like for you too.

Now we are getting somewhere. I have never honestly seen that before where everything works but the kill message.

My suggestion is to try changing it to something simple and we can work from there. I am suspicious that maybe it is getting an error parsing the line and therefore not displaying it. Else it should display something, even a garbled corrupted version of what we have in our english file.

So try editing only the stuff between the double squares. Change it to something short and simple with no text modifications.

SquareSquare You killed a guy! SquareSquare

See if you can get that to work in game (restart BF2). If you can, then try:

SquareSquare You killed #PLAYERNAME#! SquareSquare

If that works keep adding more and more on, until you can identify what parameter causes it to fail to parse.

HUD_CHAT_YOUGOTAKILLSCORE     §3You §C1001killed§C1001 §3#PLAYERNAME#§3 (§C1001+2§C1001)

The §3TEXTHERE§3 makes the font larger.
The §C1001TEXTHERE§C1001 makes it orange.

You can tell some of my §3 additions are actually redundant. The line could be rewritten:

§3You §C1001killed§C1001 #PLAYERNAME# (§C1001+2§C1001)§3

If you want a simple large text try:

§3You killed #PLAYERNAME#§3


If you can't get it to work at all, which is really weird considering everything else works, minus some very minor exceptions I am not really sure what to tell you. Try reusing the default files, or try using somebody elses localization files, and then editing in the changes you want as above.

Finally, knife pistol server + tank = lol

Edit: Another thing, check to make sure that only one:
HUD_CHAT_YOUGOTAKILLSCORE
exists in your search for it. If there is two entries for the same thing, I can see that it might cause a problem, though you would think it would barf an error, or read the first one it comes across in the list of entries (no reason for a programmer to keep looking for something already found).

A last edit: If you managed to delete the double squares from a prior entry higher up in the list it can cause problems like this, but you said you have tried installing my clean files several times, and you're the first user to have this problem and voice it to me, so I assume we can cross this issue out.

Mad ad did it. He did it by putting in enough spaces to shift it all the way over there lol. I believe it only works just right on a 1280x1024 resolution, though I could be wrong. All you have to do is open your file, find the entry and space it over until you get it just right.
