Is there a way to increase the size of your virtual memory paging file? I always get a message saying "System low on virtual memory." At that point, my computer is so slow I can't really do anything.

Go to the Advanced Tab and click the Performance button. A new box will popup.
Click on the Advanced Tab and there is a field for Virtual Memory. There is a button to change the amount.

Really if you are having problems with Virtual Memory, you should get some more RAM, if it's possible. I'm guessing you are only running 512? Maybe a gig with a whole lot of shit running (check the tray next to your clock, if there more than one or two icons that you can't identify, then you have to much shit running. Go to Add/Remove programs and remove any progs that you know aren't essential but you know you don't use.)
Point is, your computer should not have to go to virtual memory, it is a way for windows to adapt to hogging up all the resources on a computer. Virtual memory use is when the computer runs out of available RAM, and starts to put non-essential services running in RAM in a "page file" on the hard drive. With todays technology, a hard drive is a guarenteed bottleneck. Your hard drive is what makes BF2 load so slow...(find one with a high RPM.)
I'm babbling, but in conclusion, spend 40-50 bucks tops on a 512 stick, or 70-90 on another gig, and this problem SHOULD disappear. Like I said before, if you have an overage of services running, it won't really matter. Spyware is your enemy.

Slso, a page file is just that - A File - . If your drive is fragmented, your page file will address more slowly.
my recommendation, if its VM that you want to enhance:
Remove your page file completely, or at least select the smallest possible size
Defragment your drive - optimize for space.
Once you have a clear 'back-end' to your drive, re-create your pagefile at an optimum size - it will be one long contiguous file.
Other items of note:
- Turn off fast indexing (how often do you search for files anyway?)
- Is your drive compressed? If so, kick yourself in the nuts and turn that crap off
