Short version on the story

Wife and I have been planning to get toy-hauler trailer for a few years.  Basically it is a travel trailer that can house quads for transit with a drop ramp in the back.  So, last year we bought a Ford Excursion.

Now, after some RV and trailer shows and looking on dealer lots, my wife has decided she would rather have a 5th wheel toy hauler that has a dedicated garage in the back.  Obviously, an Excursion cant pull a 5th wheel without a lot of cutting.

So we found a Truck, Ford F-350 1-ton, nicely equipped to do the job nicely, and at an extremely beautiful price.

The problem is, should I buy it now, since its a great price, but I still have the Excursion (which will be paid off in 2 months) or wait, and maybe find another one at this great price?

I can afford to swing both payments, but I would have to borrow from savings to make the down payment until the Excursion sells.

Is the amount you'll save on the trailer more or less than the amount you'll lose by making two vehicle payments? Sounds like you should wait.

The trailer is more than we expected, but still affordable, but we will not be getting it until next spring anyway.  We want to make sure we get a truck big enough to pull whatever it is we may be getting.

from the sounds of it the F-350 is preowned so if I was you, I would wait -- with the new 08' super dutys hitting the market with their new engines alot of ppl will be trading in their leased diesels for the new ones ,,,, then the dealers will move those over to their preowned spots {becarefull on what year you get bc of their 6.0 liter diesel engine}

if you are thinkin about keeping the Excursion that might be your best idea ,,,, the Excursions aren't bring in the money on trades or sells

The thing about the 08 350 is the price.  They are going for over 50k comparably equipped.  I am just not willing to spend that.  I can get this 05 for less than half the price.  I agree, the 6.0l is not the best engine ford/navistar has put into a truck and that is why they were replaced with the 6.4L.

And your right about the excursions going for cheap.  The only good thing about it, is it is almost paid off, so it wont be hard to swallow.

Keep the Excursion for now. Even though you say you can afford the payments regardless, it'll still be nice having that extra money each month from a car payment that doesn't exist anymore. Take the time to shop around, especially with cars.
