Hurray Hurray...
it's update day...
Everybody whom was whining about their stats, go and apologize to Chuy!
Cheers,

Why is this the only site where my stats don't update? There are several other sites that I can check my stats and the update. It's a shame too...because I really like this site...it gives me information I can't get in the other sites.
A) It's been explained elsewhere in threads created for that topic (of which there were too many).
B) The new feed from EA is what's broken... if other sites were updating at that time, it was because they were using the old feed.
C) EA doesn't want people using the old feed (and I think it has been said that it's against the EULA).
D) The extra stuff that those other sites don't show... that's stuff that's in the new feed, but not in the old one.
E) It's apparently fixed again, for the second time.

same here i want my sf badges to be shownGuruz wrote:

So I expect the sigs to work fully when the SF stats are included fully on the new feed from EA?
They should, the cache time for those sigs is just rediculously high right now in order to combat my server from melting.emperorphoenix wrote:

Hey I think the SF badge should be in the same order as the BF2 badge
like this:
But I'm sure you're still working on this...
PS: Sorry wrong topic.

I like your idea with the amount of the Medals :
Okay, probably just me noticing this, but has anyone realized that your all showing the sig – and are showing the EXACT same medals as chuy was too... I will probably notice the same in a sec, when I sig my own note.B.Schuss wrote:

and yes, you will have to read through all of it to get the full picture.
Sorry, if I noticed a code issue that hadn't been noticed before... better now than tomorrow.
And then we could just fix the issue by disabling the sigs all togetherSunTzu wrote:

Chuy: no complaints about your work... we haven't paid you for the service (I know some have but I am talking about the majority of the 8000 + registered users you have)... You have done one hell of a job on the coding of this site, and if the sig's have to go, I will bow to your priorities.
If someone else has the skills in developing "clean" (a.k.a porn-free) sig flash apps, maybe they should contact you for sharing the fame. I for one would appreciate it, as I have no skill in this type of programming.
If you need a HUD for the windshield of your car, that gives your shift points, fuel efficiency, etc... I'm your guy!
SunTzu, this topic is like a month old, and the sigs have been removed for a few weeks now..
I agree Ryan, but as you can see, I am not posting in the forums as often as most, and I am still seeing alot of complaints about the Sigs... yes the topic was old, but I didn't want my last note of the sig issue to be a negative one. That and I was trying to figure out why I had the last word on a topic... That NEVER happens!Ryan_Mercury wrote:

I was just pointing out that say someone (picking a random name... Sahasrahla), who is more skilled on SQL /XML scripting should get involved in helping the community (script incompetent gamers such as myself) build easy to use, clean coded sigs, that don't drive as much over head as the "Hypernia" Porn sigs do.
I liked the old sigs just because they were standardized... seeing everyone's new configured sigs just becomes harder to see who you idolize (a.k.a pity) in the game.
As chuy has mentioned in a few posts recently, the point of this community is for the stats, and enjoyment of the game... I spend too much time analyzing drawings, programming code, and bill of material at work, to want to do it for my "hobby" as well. Let someone who enjoys doing that kind of thing go to town, and have us enjoy the rewards.
Anyhow, if the sigs must go, I will have to accept it.
SOOOOOoooooo. As it is very popular in the US / UK / CAN, There will be a candlelight vigil tomorrow evening outside the Aircraft on the Night Flight map (Choose your favorite EA server) at 8 pm (EST). We will be saying goodbye to the official BF2S.com sigs (down temporarily - like the TV show Boomtown - don't get me started on that one...)
Don't forget to bring a candle, and please ignore the medic with the night scope and a knife out. I just need to get a badge that has caused me grief.
:8
ROTFL.... all that to say, I got your point.
That's fine and all, but those sigs when generated, need a place to be hosted and constantly updated. So, unless that happens, programming the app is pointless unless you have the $$ for a server to do that on and permission from EA to get stats from.
I'm sure chuy wouldn't mind hosting them and all, so long as it uses consiterably less resources and bandwith than the previous method.
So..

What about a little bit of javascript code that people can use as their sigs, instead of a generated jpg image? Have the javascript grab the stats from bf2s.com, but the person would have to host the images of the awards somewhere else, on their own server or on some image hosting site. Don't know if this is possible, but I've seen similar things for other services (such as some of the old new feeds for websites). Something like this could even be configurable by the user (color scheme, etc), and should be relatively easy on your server (no different than loading a player stats page, I would think). Hmmm...Ryan_Mercury wrote:

This is what I was hoping to start; people trying to think the problem from a different angle. Chuy has gotten us this far, but the community needs to pick up the slack.SodaBob wrote:

That being said, I am studing some SQL scripts to see what can be done from the data collected already. It will take me more time though, because this is not my area of expertise.
till then...
Thanks for thinking though the issue with me.
They were changed so that they only updated when you got a new award. However this was still to demanding on Chuys server.
So I guess, we wait until EA updates the feed, or fixes. Is that what I am hearing??
No, wait till I get a new server. I think the one BF2S is currently on is, well, a piece of crap. As an example of something pointing to the server having major problems: I've never, ever ever seen the load on the server 3. That's really abnormal for a *nix box -- especially considering this is the only website hosted on it. I mean, my programming isn't THAT bad.blue3c wrote:

The real nail in the coffin pointing me towards a faulty server is that SQL queries on my home machine (and a friends) take 60 seconds. On the server (with NOTHING running) it takes 18minutes, and still hadn't finished! I had to kill it off! Now, if the server was a pentium 2 on 256 mb of ram, I could see such a drastic difference, but the machine is a dual opteron 244 with 2gb of ram and SCSI 36gb HD's in raid 0 -- that ain't no puss machine specs.
Sorry, didn't mean to offend if I did.
I have seen sql errors coming here, didn't know you were hosting the site on your own box.
Either way, love your site and would never complain. Many thanks for a fun site and forum.

**Hack***Cough***
And what are these hacks charging you for this mountainous pile of steaming siberian sheep dung? If it's over $50/month you need a good agent. By SQL - what DB are you running? What is the native OS? Is this covered in another discussion?

both things do not workchuyskywalker wrote:
The sigs will no longer accept player names in the URL. For example:
This used to work
- http://bf2s.com/player/tf-Hitman/sig.png
but it no longer will. Instead you will need to use your PlayerID in place of your nick:
Not a serious difference (you can find your PID on your player profile page), but it was important to note it for those that might wonder why the sig no longer works.
EDIT: Also, the sigs will now show SF awards, should you have them. I have, however, increased the cache duration on the awards sig from 2 hours to 24 hours. The load that single signature was placing upon the machine was rather intense. I'll probably move this routine for generating the sig image into the "update player's stats" routine that is part of the queue, but that will come later.
This is an old topic. Thats probably why.
