I guess they do not have faith.

People believe in what they want to believe in.

The problem is one of balance. Like bi-polarism, if you love to an extreme, so you will hate to an extreme.
Indifference and nutrality is the way to a peaceful world, the problem is that if there is no hate, there is no love.
You can't have it both ways.

i feel the same, allow people to do whatever they want, but I agree that following religion too literally is a very very bad idea.  Religion just provides guidelines on what your morals should be, it is not meant to tell you how to live your everyday life: e.g. treat other people how you would like to be treated, don't kill people, don't steal stuff.  Just guidelines, no one should do any of these things.

The funny part is you all think your version of god is correct.
this coming from a guy who, naturally, thinks HIS version of god (or lack of) is correct.

The problem with you atheists is, you refuse to educate yourselves about religion.  You simply observe and comment.

It's ignorant, and fallacious.
Im sorry, but i couldn't get past "So god magicaly waved his wand and created everything... the end... Now just blindly follow this, and do good, in hopes you'll go to a magical place, which i wont tell you anything about, but its really bright and you see all your family, oh also DONT FUCKING QUESTION IT EITHER OR YOU GO TO HELL!!!!!!"

And that raises another great question, if there is a heaven, why did god make earth??? At most, earth could be a place of suffering and torture, which dont exist in heaven. So really, your sick fucking god is torturing you by putting you on earth because you might have a shitty life, instead of bringing you straight to heaven.

Also... If god wanted everyone to be nice, and moral, and happy, like the bible says, why didn't god just make everyone that way? Hes really getting some tough questions here, If god made all people, why didnt he make them all nice? Is it because he WANTS criminals and murderers? I think so! Your sick god WANTS these people on earth to rape your women and murder your children!!!!!!!!!!!!

And god is perceived as a loving and great figure, well, if he is real, this shit wouldn't happen now would it!. Thus hes fake, get over it, live your life the way you want, and please, let Christianity get stomped out.

THE END..

Wow.  I have no idea what kind of right-wing conservative upbringing you had that you hate so much but that is not what the (normal) religious world is.  My religion has never told me to not question something.  That's what religious scholars do; they scrutinize things for legitimacy.
Hell, the Catholic church (if you didn't know) doesn't believe every single thing in the bible is 100% truth.  They've reviewed text, decided something probably wasn't real, and changed it's opinion on it.
So please get it out of your mind that every religious person is being blindly led around.

You have probably heard this a hundred times but I guess you still don't get it.  FREE WILL.  Everyone one of us has the free will to choose good or evil (kind of like Fable, heh).  Anyway, everyone has choices.  Should I help that old lady reach the food on the high shelf or bludgeon her to death with her walker and steal her money when she gets home?  If we all conformed and did only nice things, in truth, the world would probably be a pretty boring place.
Besides, if that were the case what would be the point of life other than to just walk around all the time with a smile on your face.

Actually, please.  Say more.  I'm curious how a few religious nut jobs prove that all religion is 'unstable and overall shit'.
well, I think it really shows how scary religion is.  It starts with a couple nut jobs and their following grows and grows until it passes the hard to find line between cult and religion.
It's that how Christianity started in the first place? Well, I guess all religion did too...

religion is a tool created by man to exploit people's ignorance.

I'm talking about all religions, religion in general.

All religions  dictate people's way of life by telling them fairy tales from "sacred", "holy" texts.

if god created us and is in fact, all knowing, he would know all the decisions we would make throughout life, hence he created the rapists murderers etc knowing very well what they'd do

you weren't the first person to scream this, you will not be the last

but unfortunatly illogical people cannot be beaten by logic

and theres also the history factor to consider, in the grand scheme of things only 3 or 4 generations have passed since Darwin's ideas came out and by and large started the athiest movement; which means there hasn't been the time for most people to get round to it due to the tradition of it and the fact they reject the science because their family do. look man i am a roman catholic and all i know is this: "treat everyone nicely and play together" :p
the bible is a more a ....guide line then a book of rules on "morallity" at least my take on it. it forbits excess of drinking, adulterous sex, treat other people how you would like to be treated, don't kill people, don't steal stuffetc well ....for your own health. i already have 2 friends fall into alcholism and another to std and besides no one is suppose to do these things anyway.
and plz ZOMG you can't compare the westBaptist church to the main stream relgions. their "church" consist of 100 members....70 of which are all related....jeez christ and they condemn catholics, jew, muslims, homosexuals, emos and pretty much everyone to hell, freaks.

I guess being good or bad is depend on many factors, maybe religion effected either but not most important item.
You can see bad karma in high rank of clergies too.

Yes, hundreds of years ago when they believed the Sun god dragged the sun across the sky.
The "Sun god religion" got stomped out by science,

NOW WHY CANT THE REST OF THESE FUCKING RELIGIONS FINALY GET STOMPED OUT BY SCIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Scientists built a nice fluffy telescope which allowed them to look at the sun up close. When they did, they noticed, just a split second before the magnified rays sizzled their eyes, that there was no golden David Hasselhoff on a chariot tugging at the sun. Building a scope that allows you to see into space is easy. Building a scope that lets you look back in time to see whether or not Adam was created by God or monkey sex is a lot harder.

I'm an atheist, but I completely understand the need for religion. People who take it too seriously... they can go away, but the moral values and answers religion provides can be extremely comforting.

When I was nearly suicidal I went to church 2 times a week for 2 months and that made things a ton easier. I didn't have to believe in god, just listening to the sermons was enough of a spiritual experience to find some peace with what I believe is an entirely random and unforgiving existence. The pastor of that church is someone I will never forget, because he was able to captivate people from all religions. One day, the church even had 3 sermons, one islamic, one christian and one jewish all revolving around the theme of coexistence. The three speakers (the pastor included) were some of the most gentile people I have ever met.
What i learned from that sermon is that the values of religion don't corrupt people, but the elitist idea that these values are strictly YOURS makes people bigots. The three speakers that day all lacked this elitism, and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my life to date, even though I didn't and don't believe in god.
Good post. The people attacking religion in this thread are doing a good job of showcasing their ignorance about religion and their immaturity in general. It's one thing to condemn extreme fundamentalists who pervert religion for their own goals, and it's another to condemn religion entirely, and call its followers weak-minded, because your ideas are "better" than theirs. It's also terribly ironic, and the best part is that the people doing it don't realize that they're exactly the same as those religious fundamentalists.

How come we don't have people claiming that their great great great grandpa shook hands with Jesus?  I mean, if Jesus is Lord and Savior and is extremely important and is your God, stories that one of your relative dine, walk through the desert, and talk to him is something so great and that it would be talked about at family gatherings constantly, father telling their sons the story and passing it down from generation to generation to this day.

I mean, after several generations from now, I'm sure someone could still claim that my great great great great great grandpa was a survivor of the haulacaust because the stories been passed down.
