Dell Redesigns The LCD: Dell’s Display Port Prototype Will Allow for Resolutions 4x Better Than HD

Wow... 4x better than HD.  I don't think my eyes could make the difference.  Are we finally at a surreal experience where we are looking at things better than real-life?

Sure, it's neat looking.
But it's more of a mirror than a monitor.

It uses a new graphics port which no doubt all new high-end DELL monitors will use and DELL systems will use. It is more than 4x clearer picture and better picture than any HD monitor.

How about Dell slows the fuck down? HD mediums like Blu-ray and HD DVD have only just gotten started and already they want something that will make HD video look shitty? Give me a break.

edit: To understand what I'm saying, download any movie off the internet then view it full screen. SHITTY.

I have every OC episode from the internats and they are awesome quality, better than watching it on my analog TV.

What you are saying is bullshit...

Stop being a whiny chode.

Blu-ray and HD-DVD were never going to reach the popularity of DVDs anyway. All of our media is beginning to shift to downloadable formats (e.g. Itunes).

That said, leaps in technology like this are what promotes the adoption of HD (and better) content. The reason why Blu-ray and HD-DVD have low market penetration is because no one has an HDTV to watch them on.

pretty much got that one right on the money.  as better displays come along, there will be greater demand for high quality video.

That second link is interesting.  So their already trying to replace DVI/HDMI?!  WTF?  HDMI's not even 2 years old!

"It's about the size of a USB connector yet offers 2x the performance of DVI in a much smaller package."

I'm guessing "performance"= Resolution?  Cuz digital is digital, there's no getting better than DVI/HDMI.  Even if it can support more bandwidth for higher resolutions, why the hell would you need to go pass resolutions up-to 2560x2048 (which DVI supports).  There's no point.  There's not going to be any display that go higher than that for a long while (even this new Dell one doesn't according to that first link).  Plus it doesn't even include digital audio into the media as HDMI does.  Am I missing something here??

Hmmm... i agree. I dont quite see the advantage over HDMI. Maybe more links will help!

I call hax. I downloaded 28 Days Later and sure enough, it simply wasn't as good full screen as an HD video would be.

You just have to find where to "download" the video. It all really depends.
You can get HD movies, but they are big...very big.

resolution anyone? 'cause $2.000 isn't that much - if we consider that it looks waaaaaay cooler than Apple's Cinema Display

Damn... Here I am, sitting on a 17" shitty 12ms dSub! Damn, that thing looks great, but I bet it breaks up into 10 million pieces from a 10cm drop...
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
