If you are a gamer and an overclocker on a budget, this is the best bang for the buck on the market.

The E6420 and Gigabyte DS3 motherboard have shown to be excellent overclockers. The 640mb GTS is also the sweet spot for video cards. Relatively cheap and can easily drive 1680x1050 monitors for years to come. The power supply and ram have also been getting excellent reviews from tech sites.

If you see any better deals an particular components post them here and I will modify the list. But the total price of the rig must stay under $1000.

Almost every component you listed is inferior. Athlon 64? 200gb 8mb cache hard drive? And why a 320mb GTS when the 640mb is only $20 more? 320mb of video memory is not enough to drive newer games at max settings in 1680x1050. Was your goal getting the LEAST performance for the price?

You would get much more performance out of the rig I listed, even more so if you overclock.

That CPU is faster than the E6600, the RAM is faster, better motherboard.

I didn't notice the HDD only had 8mb cache, that's my bad.

I take it you must be one of those people that worship video memory? 320MB of memory is enough to obliterate any new game. Video memory has very little to do with performance. I could write you 3 pages on why it has very little to do with performance, but I'll just leave it at that.

My 256MB of memory can play any game I want to with everything on high at a reasonable FPS. GPU > VRAM.

There's a reason the 640MB is only $20 more....cause it doesn't make dick for difference!

They sell little X1600PRO with 512MB memory....do you honestly think it makes that a good card? NO!

Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 is about the same as AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ but C2D overclocks to over 3Ghz with STOCK cooler so there is no reason to buy amd right now.

I'm not a fanboy. I have AMD. But Intel is about to release it's penryn cpu and nehalem samples are working already so they got their stuff ready for barcelona. and we are talking about hardware that is sold NOW, not end of this year. lolz

Fancy, you think it's worth getting the DS3 over the P5N-E SLi? I am having a hard time choosing. What about DS3 vs DS4? Much difference, or is it just that the DS4 supports a 1333Mhz FSB?
